Careful Purchasing On Ebay

Hi,

i say this to help others who are starting out and look to ebay for fig plants.

Just be careful who you purchase from as you may or may not be getting what is up for bid. It has happened to me and i imagine other forum members.

Recently i have seen some fig plants up for bid on ebay and looked at their feedback and among there feedback was MiFig4Fun saying "thanks for the purchase" as some forum members know this person has caused problems including me in regards to fig plants.

Now the person with fig plants up for bid on Ebay now probably has no idea about MiFig4Fun whom they must have bought from on Ebay to get that feedback so im not saying they are dishonest, matter of fact probably a good person , all im saying is things happen unknowningly and be careful as plants are a lot of work and in a year or two to find out a plant bought is not what was advertised is very discouraging.

This is very kind of you to point these things out Martin, especially when not everyone reads who the feedback comes from, just the score, Very good and Down with this person who has wronged you and others. Thanks Martin for showing this things which we should all be very careful of when purchasing fig trees that are associated with this person. Ciao

The listing on ebay is my own. I have not put a single thing that I got from mifig4fun since I learned after the fact about what mifig4fun is about, nor do I ever intend too. What ever cuttings I got from im assuming to be a complete loss. I can name all the sources of my cuttings if anyone is interested.

Thanks Sue. Thought I made the change to get the email replies. Life of a newbie, lol. I'll make that post at "Rate and Review Vendors". Could you tell me where it is? I'm really not a complainer, and have bought alot of rare bamboo on eBay and the internet. Sure, you get some that don't make it from time to time, even though boo is quite hardy. That's part of the fun. I revived a CandyCane that got beat up in the mail and was nothing but a dead stalk with no leaves at all. The seller Blackledge Bamboo even refunded my money. Lo and behold after much loving care and tenderness it just shooted last month and is now beautiful. Needless to say, I just sent him back the money he refunded to me. Now that is a good boo seller. But when one misrepresents and makes false statements about a boo, puts on a wrong shipping address, then agrees to replace the dead boo with a live one when its available, then tells the purchaser that he is only trying to cheat him, well, that is what I refer to as morally bankrupt. Especially when I went so far as to send him my UPS Shipping Number so he would not incur any shipping expenses for the replacement. And after many exchanges via email, he threatens me stating he is sending someone over to my address to talk to me about it. Well, you be the judge. Have a great day and thanks for the reply. Paul

Hi Stush and bmock! Glad to hear your plants are happy:) My Goldflame is beautiful! I hope it will put on some nice new growth in the summertime. I've got it in some really chunky orchid bark, which it seems to be loving! Stush, it's fine, I know you didn't just forget. I was moving around a lot all summer, and now I'm finally settled in for awhile. When the weather warms up again (which will be a looong time), I can give you my current address and we'll talk :) Honestly I'm not that heartbroken about it because I was trying to slim down my collection anyway. I did pretty well, but I'll need to do some more of that come warm weather! At what point do you think everyone I know will get tired of receiving plants as gifts for every occasion? Haha. I don't have pics to share right now, but my golden hahnii pup looks like those in the link, with even a little finer green edging. Is it true I shouldn't remove it from the parent plant because it will most likely die on its own? It doesn't seem like it would have enough chlorophyll to survive. Hi, You can have great luck with seeds like heirlooms right here trading on GardenWeb. People offer great seeds with great germination rates. Once in a blue moon you could be disappointed, but most trades are great. On the Seed Exchange Forum, and other exchanges, you will see offers of SASBEs which are people offering up extras of their seeds for postage and a bubble envelope. You can also put together your own seed tradelist and offer what you have for what you want. It is easy to do. I started by going through my commercial pkgs. looking for what ones had enough to offer a trade, and through my yard, collection seeds off of a few of my plants. Remy

I've always good luck on E Bay . I've been buying and selling for years . As in anything unseen , it's a chance you take. DO look for sellers with good feedback ,though. Those are the ones that care about their business to do a ood job. E Bay runs on trust. You might be limited to a single item ,unless the auction states "x number available". Don't be afraid to contact the seller before the auction ends to ask any questions. Compare sellers to get the best price. Lately --- alot of vendors are pricing their stuff low and really gouging on shipping - watch out for that. I'd say most sellers are trying to make E Bay a trustworthy site . Go for it and have fun ! ( Start out small to get the feel of it )

i hope you understand that im not saying anything bad about you this is why i never mentioned names only 1 and thats the person that i had problems with.
I see you had feedback from him which is open for all to read on ebay even my feedback .
Your another person amongst many that had a transaction with him including me that went sour as for the fig mafia i agree as i thru out his address because Mich is not far from me. Forty three dollars of hard earn money made me mad.
Recently another fig forum member i message about a fig tree and he said he had 2 1 extra that he would sell me and i asked its source and once again it came directly from him .
I still have this plant from MY dealings with him and im going to post pictures of it next to the real Madeira Black that was shown on this forum that originally came from UcDavis as scion and this person was lcuky enough to get 3 or 4 to grow and posted there pictures i will post that 1 which is real and the one which is not .
Like i said i can see in future as forum grows and we post cultivars and some forum members that have dealt with him saying "mine looks nothing like that".
If by chance i insulted you in anyway i apoligize truly im just trying to point this guy out as a disgrace to the many forum members in good standing and i hope there are no hard feelings we both suffered from this guy and many more will realize it as well when they read this.

Why go to Ebay when you can go direct to UC Davis? This makes no sense to me. You have time to get your order in. Just my two cents.........

There are many good reasons that make perfect sense. They follow:

1. Some people have problems rooting cuttings from UC Davis, so they are willing to pay to have a tree not scion.

2. Merdosola variety is not at UC Davis nor are many other interesting varieties.

3. Buying pre rooted cuttings means you might be able to enjoy figs this year, not in 1-2 years.

4. I wont have to wait until March to get my cuttings in nor will I have to send in a form. Then have to root them.

Well said loslunas, I was going to mention just about all of what you had written. There are many advantages to ordering from other sources, than just ordering from UC Davis. Ciao

A few months ago, my husband asked me to grow figs for him. I looked at eBay and had second thoughts. (Hubby wants fruit now!) Rolling River Nursery was suggested on this forum. I ordered two trees, plus shipping came to about $60. Two tall, vigorous trees arrived from California within a week. Worth every penny. I don't see anything on eBay that can compare within the same price range. Both are looking good and will probably (fingers crossed) bear fruit this fall.
