Two For Soggy Sunday

Stella's Little Sister started blooming for this spring.

Stella's Little Sister. It has great color this year. More intense and vibrant than last year when many of the daylilies were paler from the e4xtra early bloom and the heat.

Black Eyed Stella. This usually starts my main daylily season and has opened for years on June 21 to 23rd. Last year it was much earlier but that was the freaky year and doesn't count. So since it's open now it does mean that the daylilies are early this year by just over one week.

It is out on the slope that is way in the front yard over by my neighbors driveway. Just in the corner were you see all the iris leaves is Iris Corner, which just looked truely wonderful blooming this spring.

Florabundaville is off to the left but there are lots of lilies here on this hill along with some catmint. Then Black Eyed Stella is the only daylily at this end.

Very nice Rita. BES has many scapes here too but I don't expect blooms for another 1- 2 weeks which should be right around its normal bloom time here.

It has been raining on and off here today. Hopefully things will clear out later this afternoon. I know I said I wanted rain but one day is enough and the weeds are taking over again.

I wish I could have a soggy Sunday my grass is crispy and I know the daylilies would love it. I water them but not as much as they would like,we have a well and I'm afraid to water to much. Rita your photos as always are gorgeous can't wait to see more now that your daylilies are blooming.

I first thought that first daylily was WOMAN AT THE WELL, till I seen its TENNESSE AFTERGLOW. its a very pretty one. and SILOAM DOUBLE CLASSICE IS one of my favorite. Love it. haha I love your TOMATOE JUNGLE. I dont think it looks like a jungle.I like it, dont see no red tomatoes in it yet, but, they would be hard to see in there.Your converted veggie garden is looking good. before long you will have it packed full, too, and eating veggies out of it.Hows the potted tomatoes doing? jean

Yes, they are stakes. A bunch of us noticed that many of the spiders he had were staked. Then when we would look at the width of those scapes, it was obvious that they were thin compaired to most others in his garden. I don't know why and I did not make note of which ones they were, only that they all seemed to be Spiders that were staked.

Soggy or not, your gardens are just as stunning as always. What is the blue flower beside Black Eyed Stella? It looks very pretty there.

Julia- I was surprised that BES bloomed so early this year.

Linda- Wish you could have needed rain too, I wish everyone that needs it could get it. Still aways to go for much bloom here as lots of scapes comming but lots more to go. But at least I am getting some with these ealier bloomers.

Casey- Thanks. The flowers are Catmint. Mine is Walkers Low, a very popular type that never stops blooming. Great because it is an easy no fuss perennial.

Stella's Little Sister is very nice. Not familiar 'with that one, but Ill have to look for it. Your whole yard looks fabulous as always.

Ellie- I am really looking forward to daylily bloom this year. Last year I did lots of re-arranging and buying new to make the backyard middle beds. This year I should really be able to enjoy them.

Val- It was supposed to rebloom lots so I decided to try it. So far no reblooming. I am hoping for better this year.

Wonderful scenery now. I love that Black Eyed Stella. and just LOVE that Orange Alert Lily.That is pretty.I am happy you are showing some of your roses, too, I love seeing them along with the other blooms you have.Every thing is beautiful, and I sure wish you would send some of that rain this directon.

Thanks Debra and Jean. I love the way that corner of the slope turned out, very cottage garden and most always something blooming there with the daylily, iris, roses and lilies. If nothing else is blooming then at least the catmint keeps on blooming.

Everything was so soggy and wet when I took pictures this morning but dried out by the afternoon so I could go out and weed in the backyard. Got the daylily plateau all weeded and the area in back of the gardage. I have to go make a trip for straw for mulch so I can get more mulching done.

I didn't know about Stella's Little Sister, it is a pretty one. Everything is looking good. Looks like lots of buds on your daylilies and your lilies.

Hmmmm....I had answered this before I took my nap. Obviously I only previewed and didn't submit. Let me try again. Those lilies in the last shot are fabulous. As I had said much earlier, I really love your clump of Black Eyed Stella. And Stella's Little sister is very pretty...like the two tones effect. Your roses and catmint and all the blooms make it appear as if your house is on a high hill.

Very pretty and obviosly no drought on Long Island.

Cindy- The lilies are budded up and just ready to bloom all around the garden.

kay- There has been lots of rain here all spring which is why I think the daylilies have grown like crazy.
