Noire de Barbentane fig

I have bought a Noire de Barbentane fig from Pierre Baud nursery. It is a reputed variety in the south-east of France, however the spreading of this unifere variety is very limited beyond the south of France. It is not mentioned in the Condit's book.

According to Pierre Baud and other French authors it is a variety that resembles enormously to Bourjassotte Noire (AKA Brogiotto Nero, Violette de Solliès, Barnissote noire) but with the following differences:

- It ripens a little bit earlier (two weeks)

- It has a better endurance in wet weather.

- Better taste (according Baud, one of the best tasting figs).

- It is more productive.

- A bit smaller in size.

- Different neck shape.

It shares with Bourjassotte the fig shape, appearance and good tolerance for transport (it is a good commercial variety), and both are vigorous and big trees, in the case of Noire de Barbentane with a very upright and decorative form.

I wonder why it is a so unknown variety outside France!

Does anybody know this variety?

I still can't opine about it because my tree is very small and, probably, it won't have figs this year.

I will see in next years...
