When Jessie the cow hurt her leg and couldn't get walk for a while some years back, I loaded two 5-gallon buckets on my little red wagon. They had tops that fit securely, else most of the water would have splashed out before I reached Jessie. I hauled the filled buckets down the hill and Jessie drank about 8 gallons of water at a time because she couldn't get her head in far enough to reach the bottom of the buckets.

I still use the buckets/wagon combo to make up 'tea' for my plants and haul it around. Not nearly so sophisicated in appearance, but very handy. My point is, a wheeled conveyance and containers are very handy to have. Go for it.

I am just an old hippie, country girl and use my old wheelbarrow or the old child's wagon. I have about eight 3-gallon pickle buckets out in the yard that I catch rain water in when it rains. I got them from a Braum's hamburger / dairy goods store several years ago. Love them. I snap on the lids and sit them in the shade to save for when I need to water-in plants that I just set out. I swear, one cup of rainwater is better than a gallon of tap water, even my well water.

If you can tote those heavy water buckets in that cart and no get bogged down, it would be awesome, but rubber covered wheels would roll better, especially when hauling something heavy. Something to consider.

It is beautiful, though! Would look smashing in your 'beautimous' garden and be a fine addition to your collection! :)

It is a very decorative piece and would look just perfect sitting in your wonderful garden.

I am like Annie worrying how it would handle in wet ground, mole runs, etc. I use an $80 something garden wagon attached to the riding mower for my heavy stuff and couldn't garden without it. If you seriously need it for work, maybe you should check around a bit.......or if you really love it, get out that card!

Well, you know I wondered about those wheels too and if the whole thing is just decorative. The ad stated it could carry 100 lbs., so a person probably couldn't put too big of a tank on there. Water is heavy. I have the site and page bookmarked, but I'll have to think about it some more now.

Would prefer to push something rather then pull it. I think I can buy a small trailer that goes with my Toro Timecutter, but it was expensive so that's why I didn't get it. Setting my watering cans out to fill up during a rain crossed my mind before, but the bucket w/lids is a better idea.

I'll let you know if heart wins over brain.

I paid $50 for my Radio Flyer (red wagon). I think the pretty wood lattice on that beautiful push cart might not hold up well over time.

Harry Dodson (Victorian Garden Series) used his mainly in the greenhouse it looked like. But like I said, the body of the wagon was actually a wooden water tank, lined with something I assume. Yes the sides on this garden cart may not hold up.

I'm not keen on pulling a wagon or similar it just seems harder for me, would rather push a contraption.

Just noticed this and thot I'd mention that a US gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. So you could only haul 12.5 gallons in that lovely wagon.

Just wonder if you could get a cheap or free plastic barrel (see GW's Frugal Gardening forum) and fill it using a hose then tote water from that point. Lots of ways to "pretty up" a water barrel.

luckygal, I hear you. In fact this morning, I was thinking the same thing about the 100lb. capacity thing. By the time a gardener would load up what she/he needed for most any chore, it would be way over the weight limit.

I especially want something to haul water as the orchard beds and veggie garden is a long ways from the house and a water source. Dragging a water hose that distance then reeling it back in wouldn't be fun either. I've tried that by using three connected together, and still it wasn't long enough. Couldn't leave it out, as I had to pick it up whenever I mowed.

It may have been in Gardener's Supply that I saw a rain barrel that actually had two wheels, but not sure how heavy that would be to roll. I've got a two-wheeled hand truck, I suppose I could rig something up this summer.

Why don't you start with your two-wheeled hand truck and a five gallon bucket, or may two buckets stacked, they need lids. That will give you some idea of how pushing containers that are a little off-balanced feels as contrasted with pulling a level 4-wheeled wagon.

Wide wheels roll much easier than narrow ones. Big rubber tires kind of float, while narrow wheels tend to bog down -- oh, Annie already said that.

I would start saving for pipe to run to the garden, but we all have different priorities.

Somebody here, I think it might be GottaGarden, has a big contraption that is like a wheelbarrow -- maybe it is called a wheelbarrow -- that has a bar to push instead of the two handles of a regular wheelbarrow and I think, big tire(s). Maybe somebody will remember that thread?

This is my last thought, really. Googling around, I found a bunch of utility garden carts that are pushed, hold about 300-400 pounds, some with bicycle type tires, some with big tires with smaller diameter and most about the price of the pretty cart in question. NOT ONE was attractive. For about $40, you can get a garbage can cart, even less attractive.

If we're going to vote, I vote for the attractive cart you like, an asset to your pretty garden. You don't really have to haul that much water, do you?

No, I don't have to haul 50gl.of water. The main reason I liked this cart when I FIRST saw it, was because of Harry Dodson's wooden water cart I saw him using in that Victorian Garden series; and this cart looked the closest to his I've seen so far. His was a very old fashioned and practical solution to hauling water down the isles of his greenhouse, dipping his water can down in to fill it up and water the plants.

I know what you are trying to get across. And thank you for thinking my garden is pretty.
