How about Coreopsis and daylilies? I found I had the same problem as you...except my issue isn't blue, it's pink. Some nice tall tickseed and daylilies strategically placed help move the eye away from my overwhelming pinks and purples.

Oh I was just thinking of another one that would probably bloom at the right time for you..."Screaming Yellow Baptisia". (the name isn't quite appropriate...it is very yellow, but not frighteningly so!) Mine started blooming about 2 weeks ago and will be finished up in another week or so.

It's a funny situation really because this blue phase was so unintentional. Interestingly, I also just experienced the pink phase which I rather enjoyed. I'll give the baptisia a try. I do have coreopsis and the daylilies but in my area at least, these do not bloom until summer. Thanks for the suggestions.

What about adding in some yellow to chartreuse foliage instead? Forgive me if I don't mention things for your zone, though. I have these foliage plants in my garden.

Sedum 'Ogon' has a really pretty pale yellow color. It's very flat to the ground. It doesn't bloom.

Salvia officinalis 'Icterina' has pretty yellow and green foliage. Mine mounds up so beautifully.

Spirea 'Limemound' starts out lemon yellow when it leafs out (very early) and gradually turns lime in summer, then russet in fall.

Does achillea bloom early enough there? I have a pale yellow blooming 'King Edward' that is about 6" high. It blooms a very long time and has wooly foliage. It blooms early for me.

I don't have it, but baptisia 'Carolina Moonlight' is a gorgeous pale yellow indigo.

I think there is a yellow columbine, maybe 'Canary'?

My yellow columbine are still blooming. They started right after the forget-me-not, slightly before the foxglove, and now the penstemon are fourishing right along side them. Lavendar has just started getting color and the Columbines are a mix between buds, peak, and seed formation. The yellow is brilliant with the other blue/purple. I'll post a photo this weekend after hubby helps me.

I love yellow loosestrife--Lysimachia punctata--but it does spread after a few years in the garden. A nice clear yellow and long-blooming perennial--six weeks here. Great with blue.

It's hard for me to garden by long-distance but would yellow violas and yellow snapdragons work for you?
Annuals are so good for adding in instant color where you need it.

There is a yellow flowered penstemon. High Country Gardens has it on sale. Forsythia blooms early. Euryops, Marguerites, and hollyhock probably begin to bloom mid-spring. Are you going to be enlarging that garden, Ianna?! Do you like St. John's Wort? I don't know what time of year that blooms. Yarrow should be in bloom about this time of year.

I recently found seeds for yellow Allysum. I'll be interested to see what it looks like--the seeds have begun to sprout. I hope the color isn't a mustard colored yellow.

Thanks everyone for your responses. These are quite helpful and each one worth looking into. I hope I do find my solution. The yellow bloom I am seeking must be tall - 3 feet so as to be seen. Each time I look into my garden bed, I find myself amused that all the blooms are coming up blue. Right now the delphiniums, russian sages and the lavenders are joining the blue salvias and the perennial cornflowers. Since most of these plants are tall and spikey, I need something that is either umbrels or rounded shape or anything that is of a different shape but not a daisy since the daisy shapes are coming up in the next phase. So from what was suggested, perhaps the yellow iris and the columbines might work out. I am also interested in yellow salvias and baptisia.
