#1 I like the small paint sample to the right/bottom of the bigger two. What made you decide against that sample? I think it's pretty and sophisticated.

#2 I don't think it would look odd to have wainscotting in only one bedroom.

#3 Don't think you need any more blue. Like your idea of chocolate and if the bedding doesn't look right after painting, you could get a nice blue/brown stripe bedspread.

#1 I like the larger darker blue or the small one on the bottom right - more of a blue gray. I wouldn't add the wainscot or chair rail in her room.

#2 I don't think you need to have the same wainscot/chair rail in both rooms. Let them be individual and when DD1 is gone and you redo the room, if you want to add, it's easy.

#3 A lighter blue on the top wall would be a better choice, imo.

Honestly, colors never read consistently from one computer screen to another, and they certainly don't read the same as they do in person. Your best advice would be from the people who will be living in the spaces.

DD#1 - the darker blue seems to have a greenish cast on my computer, not grey. However, given those as the two choices, I would do the deeper blue for a more contemporary feel (of course, her furniture, etc will also play into that). I don't see any reason to do a chair rail - certainly not a minimalist feel, imo.

DD#2 - no problem having one room with wainscot and not the others, but that seems like a way complicated solution because the lower half of the wall needs painting! LOL I would just keep the faux finish above, add a chair rail painted to match the other trim in the room, and then either do the lower wall in a creamy white that is compatible with the faux finish, or pick another color like a pretty soft green below.

DS room. I would leave the dark blue below and do a neutral taupe or beige above. Much more interesting that another blue, imo. Do his bath in the blue he likes, and add the same color taupe towels and rug, etc. to bring them together.

So many pretty blue choices!
#1 -- let the 16 year old have the final vote. IMO you can find a grayer blue, which would be more sophisticated, but I don't live there; failing that, the darker blue with lots of shiny silvery accessories. No chair rail.
#2 -- ok to have 1 room with wainscoting, the other without.
#2 -- taupe ok, choc brown will look dated very soon, blues are better. I'm traditional enough that I like color below a chair rail to be white/cream.

I'm not feeling a gray blue with that carpet. I like the blue in the second photo, one on the bottom. It doesn't seem to have any gray in it.

I love your idea for DD's room, that faux wall is so pretty it would be a shame to paint over it.

I like the large left-hand sample. It looks good with the carpet and should make the room lighter in feeling than the darker sample.

parma42: Thanks, I just wasn't sure and needed some re-assurance about the wainscoting. I too liked that small blue sample to the right of the other two. I wish I knew what color that was and why we nixed it. That was 15 samples ago (no kidding) and back when I thought, "this will be fun". I'll find it and put a larger sample on the wall and post for your opinion. Do you think it's too much blue with blue on top and white below chair rail for DS's room? I can't change his bedding since it's only 8 months old. Any chocolate color suggestions?

miles661: I know it's really hard to give advice about colors from a computer screen, it's right up there with picking your color off a paint chip. Thanks for looking anyways. My youngest has the strongest opinions and wants to keep her pink walls. The two teenagers, they're another story. DS since turning 13 speaks in grunts and really could care less about what color is on his wall, just so long as it's not airplanes and fish. He really only picked the lighter blue for his bathroom because I promised him he could sleep in for another hour if he made a decision.
That's about as good as it gets from my teenagers.

#1: We had to switch to a blue with more of a greenish undertone. The gray undertones looked beyond awful with the carpeting.

#2: Do you pretty please have a creamy white or soft green color suggestion?

I'm taking your advice about painting DDs BR white and running with it. Granted, I'm running in circles (haha) but DDs loved your idea.

brutuses: You my dear new GW friend are the reason I'm keeping the pretty pink faux in DD(10)'s room. Your comment on a previous post made me take a really good look at her room. Her room makes her so happy and I always smile when I'm in there either waking her up for school or tucking her in. I only plan on painting over the faux from chair rail down. There are too many dings and scratches and it give the room a kind of grungy feel. Another nail on the head is the blue/gray for DD(16)'s room. What type of computer screen do you have? You saw the gray in the blues clashing with the brown?! Do know of any blues with a green undertone? Thanks for your input.

My bad, I didn't see that you were talking about painting your DS's lower wall white. If that's the case, I'm with Les and don't really see why. You already have the bottom painted blue...why knock yourself out? Just paint the top a neutral.

parma: The lower wall in DS room is a faux finish. It's been on his walls for close to 10 years. The walls have many knicks, dings and scratches that we're unabale to touch up due to it being faux finished.

I don't have any color suggestions, but I have to LOL at...

I think SW Rain or colors in the strips to either side of the Rain strip would look nice with the bronzy/brown carpet in your 16 year old's room.

I also love SW Halcyon Green, but it might be too green for you.

caroline: Living with teenagers is quite a challenge. When they're young you're physically tired and then the teen years hit!! Now I'm mentally tired.LOL

randita: The carpeting doesn't have any bronze in it. It just shows up that way on film. It's more of a milky chocolate brown color. I don't know SW paint colors very well. Are those colors more green? DD(16) is trying to stay away from green since that's the color of her room for the past 10 years. Do you know of any blue/greenish paint colors to recommend? Thanks.

I have an SW fandeck. If you want more muted colors (i.e. colors that are more grayed but you don't really see the gray), check on out strips 31, 32 and 33 (they tend from more green to more blue). The 3rd or 4th colors down on each of those strips are very popular and I think all of them would look nice with the chocolate brown rug. My favorite color of the bunch is Rain on strip 32. I'm going to paint my piano room that color.

If you want clearer, but more classic blue green shades, check out strips 69, 70 and 71 or 110-113.

With the Pool Blue, you're into the Energetic Brights which are the more intense colors.

If your daughter tends to be more animated and whimsical, then the energetic brights might suit her well, but if she's more reserved and laid back, then she might be drawn to the muted or classic colors.

I have a son, now in his 20's who has always loved bright colors and the first apartment he had, he painted each wall in his living room a different bright color - red, chartreuse, bright aqua, and bright purple. The walls were 14 ft. high, so you really had a splash of color in that place. I helped him paint it. He had a lot of bright artwork, some of which he painted himself, which he placed on the different walls. He loved it because it made him feel alert and happy.

So everybody's different.

I wouldn't go too light on the walls - something with an LRV (Light Reflective Value) of 45-55 would blend well with the rug, I think. Check the back of the strips for the LRV. Usually the 3rd color down on the strip is around 50 and the color below that around 40. They sometimes look dark on the strip, but when you get them on the walls, they look perfect.
