Book suggestions?

OK so you've convinced me that garden conifers can be cool things to have,but there are so many,and I don't mean all the cultivars-just going thru the species list in my way too general tree book confuses me! I need to be able to differentiate between Thuja and Tsuga,Chamaecyparis and Calocedrus,Taxodium and Taxus,my god its a minefield out there! I'm pretty good at IDing trees but conifers have me stumped! So come on,where do I start? I don't necessarily want a Who's who of garden conifers,rather a guide (book or online) on conifers in general- i can learn the cultivars later!

Thanks for those,I do have the Mitchell Book of Trees,great book. I'll have to look on Amazon for the other two. Now any online pages out there with photos to help me on my way?

I've just finished reading Barbara Walter's autobiography, "Audition". I've always been a huge lover of good biographies and autobiographies and have read too many to count over the years. But, I have to say that this one by Barbara Walters is by far the best, most interesting one I have ever read . . . hands down! It's an easy read with many , many great photos. Long, although it was so interesting that I wished it had gone on for another 100 pages. She has met , interviewed and befriended some of the world's most fascinating people and, after finishing her book, I'm convinced that she's the most fascinating person of all of them. New Old House – Restoration Renovation Decorating Landscaping Martha Stewart (1992) this one is pretty old, but still actual and full of useful information. By the way, for those who don't like reading large books - try reading the summary of those. For example, this way I have read an entire book "when the legends die" on https://freebooksummary.com/category/when-the-legends-die , and thats really cool, isn't it? I would have spent a couple of days on reading that book, but instead of that I have read the summary in just a couple of minutes!

Yep it's sunburned. The best thing now is to put your Agavoides in a spot outside where it's in bright filtered light, but no direct sun. For me my porch is good for this. It gets bright light, but direct sun. Leave your Agavoides there for awhile so it can snap back:). Eventually as the plant grows those leaves will die off and you will never know this happened:).

Ooh nice site,at first I thought it was Dutch,but I recognise your name on there-so you've travelled a bit in search of trees eh. There's a wicked photo of a Juniper in Turkey overhanging a cliff,fabulous,and nice pics of Scots Pine,one of my favourite trees as there used to be a huge one near my mom's house.

This site has been helpful to me. Since it deals with landscape plants it is not nearly as comprehensive as others but it usually offers decent pictures of plant habit, leaves, cones, etc. It occationally throws in a few cultivars and Latin meanings as well.

It's not UK, but Conifers of California by Ronald Lanner, aka pinetree30, is a beautiful book and contains a lot of good biology.

I still like 'Conifers for Gardens, An Illustrated Encyclopedia' by Bitner. My fave so far. There must be over 1500 photos. One other thing, which is pretty simple... just visit your local nurseries or make trips to public gardens. After getting used to seeing various species, you will come to know how to differentiate them. Have fun!
