When to plant Dawn Redwoods

Hi,

I have (10) Dawn Redwoods that I grew from seeds. They are in 10" pots on the porch. They are over a year old, spent last winter indoors and average 20" tall. I got the cones from another DW here in North Smithfield. I have a few questions. We have a 1/2 acre, so I think we only have room for one tree. But should I plant several of them to assure that one grows successfully? Is now a good time to plant? Will they need protection from the New England winter? If so, what kind? Will they survive another winter indoors if it is too soon to plant indoors? Lastly, has anyone had luck with bonsaing this species and where to start? Not sure to do with all the trees now.

Thanks!

Mike
