The difference between cottage gardens...

Hi guys! Im board here. Its been raining (a really COLD rain) on and off since Sunday, and I havent been able to get out much. Mind a chat?

Heres a question ive been wondering about for a long time. Whats the difference between an English cottage garden and say, and American cottage garden? And I dont mean in just plants used, but in composition. What are the unique characteristics of each that difines them? Can you tell them appart? I once heard that what makes American gardens unique is their mixed perennial boarders, which use both woody and non-woody plants. Doesnt English gardens do the same? How about French cottage gardens? What defines them? I once read that French gardens usually focus more on composition and texture than flowers and color, is that true? Ive also heard people here talking about Irish cottage gardens. What sets them apart from English?

Are their any other interesting traits in other countries cottage gardens?

And do you see any of these countries styles in your garden?
