Just one daylily, and garden pics.

I have scapes popping up everywhere. It's been in the 80s here after several inches of rain, and the daylilies are growing like crazy. I had one scape on Paperbutterfly and when I got home yesterday, there were five more scapes that had just shot up!!!! Lots of daylilies have scapes, that I haven't seen bloom yet, so I am very excited. Mystical Rainbow is graciously giving me one perfect bloom everyday, since it started to bloom, so nice and a good image of things to come.

Here is a shot from a distance. Yeah! It's the only daylily I have right now, gotta show it off. LOL

I stopped at a place after work today, that sells cement creations. I love this place, they have some really nice garden stuff. Lots of my things in my yard are from there. I picked up this new birdbath, I really like it cause it is all one piece. I may paint it, not sure yet. It is solid cement and very heavy, so no chance of it being tipped over.

Here is a shot of the Lupine, you can see the 'mushroom' brothers peaking out from behind.

A really nice Iris that bloomed, Winter Waltz, it was a bonus plant.

Here are Winter Waltz and Black Dragon together. This is in my black and white bed.

I took this garden shot, and when I loaded it into my computer this evening, I saw my garden clippers on the wooden bench. I had spent some time looking for them earlier and then gave up. It gave me quite a laugh when I saw them in the pic. ( I went outside and got them) I guess I am just easily entertained!!!

Gotta show you poppies that are just starting to open. that's all for now, Oh, no, I see my bucket in this picture, I think I put it away!! Not sure though, have to go out in the dark and look for it!!!! cindy

I love looking at your pictures Cindy. Mystical Rainbow is a great daylily. I'll enjoy your's until mine starts up. Your yard art is great. Especially love the birdbath. I've been searching for more things to add to the garden here. I have always loved lupine, and have tried them several times. After your and Rita's pictures, I am determined to get them to like it here. They are just too beautiful. Your iris are very pretty. Thanks for sharing!

Wow,I really injoyed the garden tour of your yard.Looks really great and Ilove your garden art, but what I love the most is that Birdbath.Its really pretty.The daylily and Lupines are so pretty as well as those Iris's.I really like that white iris. You have such a beautiful place there and on the water, too.Its so peaceful living near the water.I Lived on the water in a houseboat for 3 years in Louisiana years ago. At the time I was married to a commercial fisherman.

Thanks, Rita :) *beams* I"m really happy with what I've been able to do with basically a large slab of concrete. Pat, I've had some of them in larger containers for 2-3 years before dividing. I give them really good organic fertilizer or root trim, and in plastic containers, I usually drill lots of small holes in the sides to aerate the roots better and also put a wick in larger containers so roots don't rot from poor drainage. They do very well overall. This is one of the first years I forced myself not to mess around too much so I could see some of the daylilies' full potential. Hi Julia, and welcome to the hosta forum. Sagae is a beauty, you will love it. As for mulch, the only readily available mulch in my area is shredded hardwood. I use this in shrubbery beds, but it's no good in places that you want to dig, and it doesn't enrich the soil, but as it decomposes actually depletes the soil of nutrients, is my understanding. In any event, in my shade garden, mulch is not needed for weed control. By May, there is so much foliage that the ground is in complete shade and nothing much will germinate. Hostas like moist, humusy soil, in my experience. If I had unlimited supply of compost, I would put down a layer of compost each early spring before anything began to emerge. In my photo, the bare dirt looks quite unloved, doesn't it? Any earthworm friendly mulch would be great for hostas. Since you are new to hostas, I will mention that each plant takes a few seasons to crank itself up to its full potential. Especially for the large and jumbo varieties, which seems to take 3 to 5 years to show that they really are jumbo. Oh goodness, how evident is it that I miss my gardening center job. Jan G;You have some beautiful daylilies and some other beauties, too.Love the trumpet lily.Its really pretty,and the roses, too.I had wanted that Wild Blue Yonder for a long time, but didn't get it,and since breaking my wrist while messing with roses, my girls just having a fit to not buy another rose bush and let them die.Well, they die here after about 5 years anyway,in spite of the excellant care they get.I do have several thats a good 30 years old.ROSES ARE WORK.Have to be spraying them all the time,for BS and pests,and here the deer eats them up, too,so just lately I have decided to not mess with Roses,other then my KnockOut roses,and a couple Belinda's Dream and Bonica, and 4th of July.The rest of them are slowly dying anyway,so,will eventually get rid of them and plant other things that takes less care. Yes the free standing trellis is a square - the posts arch together in the center with a wood finial on the top. :) I used to have fabulous clematis on that trellis - maybe again I'll work on those someday but hard to argue with the vigor of the morning glories. You know when I built that garden we had dug it up and was improving the soil and I had ordered that trellis I walked in proudly with it and plunked it in its new home and the guys that were helping me that day all laughed at home STUPID it looked all by itself in the middle of that unplanted garden. I told them they had no vision - LOL.

Love your garden pictures. Glad you found your clippers. It gave me quite a laugh because I can just imagine any one of us doing that:) Very cute!

I will get to see MR bloom this year for the first time. It will be so much fun watching all my new ones in bloom.

That Winter Waltz iris is drop-dead gorgeous!!

How funny that your PAPER BUTTERFLY is sending up scapes as mine is too. We have alot of scapes as of yesterday.
We too have experienced abnormally high temps over the past week and today, 90's. Do you think we are past the last frost date LOL.
Time to get outside and weed before it gets too hot.

Mystical Rainbow looks great. Nice to have a daylily bloom this early. Love, love the birdbath so pretty. Not sure if it should be painted or not. Probably would look great either way.

Love the lupine. Lots of flower stalks so you must have more than one plant. I see it in the backround of the poppy pictures too. Plus I love the red poppies, so pretty.

I got WINTER WALTZ as a bonus from Schreiners last year also. I love the large flowers, the color and all the ruffles.

Last but not least, I love the shots accross the garden, the one with the prunners on the bench is my favorite. Your garden is so lovely.

Great photos! You're just a little ahead of me. Lupines are blooming and some iris ... but poppies are just about to burst.

Laughed at the bucket and shears ... sounds like something I'd do. And LOVE your cement accents.

Wonderful garden pics!

I MUST MUST know what the name of those smaller leaved hostas you have on either side of your bird bath. They look like something I simply must have.

Thanks everyone, The hostas are a very common one, Golden Tiara. There are three Lupine plants in that grouping. I was thinking of painting the birdbath, cause they had one that was painted and it looked good, but the more I look at mine, I may leave it as is, plus I am no artist!! Cindy

Good .. don't paint it! :>) The color should change a little being outside ... probably won't be so bright. But it looks great the way it is, natural.
