I can just imagine the fragrance, it must be exquisite. tivoli_rose, I'm awed by your photography and the lovely plants you have in your garden. They all look absolutely perfect. hoovb, I LOVED your garden, with such an awesome house set in the middle of it. I wonder at the amount of work you must do to have it in such pristine condition. The composition and design of the garden are wonderful. I was also able to find pictures of Jon's garden in Wessex and Maurizio's garden in Sardinia. I believe Shah Jahan's words when he first visited Kashmir in northern India are appropriate: "If there is a paradise on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here". The longer I am on this forum and read past threads the more I've come to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of your individual voices. There is so much caring, intelligence and knowledge here. I don't have a master list that I can just post so it will take me some time to get something together. I will see what I can do. My purchases this spring were from the northern hybridizers because I wanted truely hardy garden performance. I also looked alot at rebloom for northern gardens. Not everything I bought rebloomed as in for instance no rebloom is listed on Phil Korths daylilies. But he is in zone 4 so who knows, they might rebloom further south and I am zone 6/7. Your in zone 4 so I don't know if your even going for rebloom. But I know many of Karroll Emmeriches daylilies do rebloom for her in zone 4 MN. She is very specific on mentioning these things in her descriptions. Plus Brian Culver up in Toronto Canada (you buy thru Melanie Masons North Country Daylilies) has many with the instant rebloom trait. That means the rebloom scapes are coming up while the original set of scapes are still blooming. This would be especially good for a short growing season in a northern climate. I intend to make lots of notes on what reblooms for me here but since I only planted these northern ones this spring, I do not feel this year is a valid test as they really do need time to settle in. Also I went for descriptions of long bloom periods and high bud counts as much as possible. Obviously I liked the looks of all the flowers I picked or I would not have bought them but I was not looking for all the bells and whistles and newest innovations that you see on the southern hybridizers flowers. I was looking for daylilies for the real world garden.

Two of my recent blogs have a lot of pictures of Karol's plants. One was part 4 of National Convention ( link below) and the other is Part 6 at Springwood garden where I have images of a number of her seedlings as well as some named cultivars. Yesterday her 'Skin of My Teeth' was blooming here - a new convention plant - and I didn't get the camera out. It has put up two new scapes! Her plants do great here, too. Are we done with the gang mentality? I guess I should have put a smiley face after my comment to botann :) ... Admittedly, a mischievous sense of humour did not translate in that post. My point being that I am aware bamboo doesn't grow "in" water and was struck (again) by how some regular members assume most non-regular posters are novice beginners. But since some took the time to formally announce that I will henceforth be ignored, let me ask the following. Why is anyone who is perceived as challenging or disrupting the "regulars" (even on only one or two occasions) immediately labelled a troll or accused of being "fueled by totally opposite considerations"? I have made dozens of posts on this and other forums because of a genuine shared interest I have in those subjects matters. I have on occasion agreed with the oft-expressed opinion that there is a sense of exclusivity among certain regular posters on this forum, and yet this single post is cited as evidence by George and Ink of an enemy in your midst. Actually my goal is more on promoting Japanese Gardens, and encouraging that interest in others - which is why I suggested Flickr to "adopted". It is inspirational to look through the photos on that site. My original post was nothing but complimentary, supportive and encouraging. That said, I do happen to believe that all should be welcome, that this is not the place for a private social club and I believe I am entitled to that opinion. Isn't this is a public space were people of all stages of interest share information? I don't think it's solely a place were a handful of regular posters should have private debates intended for their own amusement. That leads to the gang mentality witnessed above, whereupon internet cliques form and occasional posters, lurkers or "drop-ins" are made to feel like unwelcome outsiders. Just because someone is not a member of the frequent posters club, why under-estimate their knowledge level? Maybe if all queries are answered as though the posters experience is similar to yours, and not 'talked down' to or ignored, it will be a more enjoyable and educational forum for all. So if some of you have hopes of driving me (like others before me) off the forum, so be it. The fact that you attempt to do this, only speaks to the kind of power/control issues at work here (I disagreed with Inkognito on one single occasion, and he now vocally labels me a troublemaker - fragile ego indeed). No single group owns this forum. Anyone is entitled to visit and occasionally I will post - usually in a supportive and encouraging role. I have learned from some of you, and will continue to do so. However, I promise not to ask any more questions of botann for fear I will get another introductory lesson on the rudimentary basics of bamboo. But as I said, it was a very nice pic. He (or she) has got a lovely garden.
