I am interested in the answer to your question as well. Once the young fig plant out grows the high humidilty containers, it is my opinion that the most difficult issue in maintaining viable plants during the winter is addressing air quality and humidity. In addition to my whole house humidifier I added a plug in humidifier in my growing room that has made a significant positive impact. I may add an Ionizer to my growing process depending on input to your question.

Air ionizers don't do a good job of cleaning the air and can actually hurt people. They make ozone. Ozone is harmful in high enough concentrations to plants and animals, including humans. It is considered an air pollutant in the atmosphere even though it is considered good in the stratosphere since it blocks radiation. The plants are probably looking better because the days are getting longer which is making them grow. Check out the link below for an interesting article.

I have read the article and have found that with so many things, one day it is good for you and the next its bad, then back to being good again. As far as I am concerned, the ionizer has made a huge improvement on my plants and i haven't gotten sick from them, then again, the one I have is very expensive and a better brand and doesn't according to what I have read about it, doesn't put the amount of Ions in the air that is harmful. I also have a friend with breathing problems who was told by their doctor to purchase one and his breathing problems are better by 75%. Its like everything else, with everything their is a negative. Years ago it was " Healthy " to drink milk, now you shouldn't. It was healthy to do this and that, now it isn't. Who and what do you believe. I think you need to shop around. Live life and we need to stop Worrying every five minutes about everything we put in our mouths or in our homes. Its depressing you can't turn on the news without someone telling you that what you have done all your life is now bad for you. Next year it will be good again. Price, believe me the whole light thing was already taken into consideration prior to your post, but it has nothing to do with the environment " greenhouse" which the figs are in at that moment. I agree with Italian girl. I have decided not to listen to those studies one day it is good next day bad. From memory here are the ones that were good then bad at one time: Chocolate, coffee, grilled meat, milk, honey, and so on. I also have one of those ionic breezes and have relly liked it. My two cents.

I have always liked the fresh clean smell of ozone in the air after a lightning storm, but I know that too much of it is poisonous so I don't go looking for the stuff.
