Anyone For Trillium? (1 Pic)

I walked across the road Monday and took this shot of the woods full of trillium that we look forward to seeing every spring. I'm still haven't learned to focus my camera properly, but I'm working on it. I miss my old Nikon FTn with manual everything, but there's no way I would ever go back to film.

OH MY!!! How beautiful is that. When I read your heading I nonchalantly thought to myself I've got those, LOL my meagre little clump would get lost in that gorgeous display. Thanks for sharing TM it's a sight to behold.

Thanks lycopus and esh - I guess that's why I had trouble finding a trillium picture that looked like them. I thought for sure with the three leaf combos they had to be trillium. Either way, you're right esh, they do look happy.

3/4" knobs feel like you are in a powder room -- which might be OK. I'd kill my cabinet guy if he located them where they are in your pic though - just NOT good! I just ordered all of the stuff (or almost all of it!) for white shaker cabinets with flush drawer fronts on top and five-piece doors/drawers below and settled on 1" for upper cabinet knobs and 1.25" knobs for all lower cabinet doors -- the scale (hopefully) works for the cabinets, and it seems modern and vintage at the same time, and would especially be so in chrome, depending on your other (pulls, etc) choices. Anyone tried to plant hanging baskets in 5-1-1?

I think petunias are true annuals and if so you are better off starting with seeds or seedlings every spring. I do have some hanging baskets of geraniums planted in 511 and they do well over the winter in the house. They also flower all year long. The 511 mix needs to be changed every other year. I use the old mix in garden beds. If you are starting seeds or using cuttings you can do that in the 511 mix. I cover the top with a thin layer of ground coconut husk (the kind used for starting seeds) to hold in the moisture while germinating. That way I can just pot them up directly in 511 mix without a problem.

That is a wonderful photo. But I know what you mean about missing your old camera. Mine was an inexpensive 35mm something or other and it took the best photos.

My parents had a cabin in the woods, my brother inherited it. In the early days when Dad had it, there were Trilliums all over; but then he began to mow the area around the cabin and today there are very little wild flowers left.

I resisted looking at this thread, expecting one trillium, not hundreds. Thousands, even. Spectacular display. Just beautiful.

I'm happy that all of you are enjoying seeing the three-petaled wonders. This patch of maple woods is also host to untold numbers of wild leeks, and walking through them releases their oniony aroma. I have tapped some of the maple trees to make syrup a couple of times, and if only there were morel mushrooms there, it would be perfect. There are a lot of morels in this general area, but the people who know where won't tell you.

Teresa, this is all totally Mother Nature's show, and is just a small patch of the trilliums in this neck of the woods.

TM - awesome!!!! Swards like that take years to come to fruition!!!! This bush has been left to it's own devices for many years.....no one person can make this happen, it's Mother Nature that creates this opus!!!!

Kathy - you are welcome to visit next April/May to see all of this come to life. I am not sure how Spring comes to you, but here, it teases, it tempts, then it explodes.

At this point, plants and flowers come so quickly, you could miss most many of them.
