If (?) this is the zip code (42223) the roses are planted in it's coming up zone 7a on two different hardiness maps. I'm in zone 5b-6a right on the line so conditions are different here. I planted a celest fig tree in the ground in Northern VA ab out 20 years ago, zone 6B or 7--we dispute the zones. It was about 3 feet tall and now is 20 feet tall. I used to gather up black plastic trashbags filled with leaves and grass cuttings from neighbors and surrounded the tree with that for winter protection. About 7 years ago a horticulturist said the diameter of the trunk would survive any freeze and I no longer would need to do that. I had had the most wonderful figs from that tree however, I have no signs of life this spring. It is May 20 and I am still waiting for a sign of life. If nothing by Jine 1, I will severely cut it back.

I planted one out three weeks ago, but had to cover it twice. I planted another three last weeks and they are fine. I plan on planting the rest out Thursday. Growth wise the three week old is not much bigger than the the one week olds though. I'm not sure I really gained anything by going early, but that was what I was trying to figure out. ZZ it is hardy here. I had mine for 4 years. No winter protection and planted far away from the house. She's not cane hardy but had no problem coming back each year. I went thru my papers for you. My Pat Austin was own root from Heirloom Roses. She would have 4 to 6 slender canes that grew to maybe 4 feet. So they kind of leaned with the flower very close to the ground. She had full all day sun. All that said I'm not sure how I fertilized or if I even bothered with her after a while. Wish I had better news but at least you can rest assured she is hardy. I have quite a few new orange toned flowers from this year and last. We should keep all keep each other informed on how well our roses do. It beats the heck out of guessing. I've got some roses now that look as is they will be spectacular here. I for one will be sure to update on the best in my yard. I hope you guys have lots of good luck PAs.
