How to get rid of ants in a potted orange tree?
Comments (23)This thread has reminded me of one of my many nightmare stories about fire ants. These ants are simply a part of life in much of the warmer parts of this country. I was living in S. Carolina at the time. I got into my car, backed down the driveway, and started down the road. After about two or three minutes, I felt a sharp sting on my calf. Immediately, I felt stings all over, including down my blouse. A huge swarm of the ants had entered my car at some point from the time I had driven it earlier in the day till the moment they all tried to sting me at once. The nurses counted dozens and dozens of stings from my toes to the top of my head. I was bothered by 'phantom' ant stings for months after that, lol....See MoreI have ants on the plants in my garden...how do I get rid of them
Comments (9)There are many ways to get rid of fire ants. You can use a mixture of sugar and borax. Pour the mixture around the ant hills, and the ants will carry it inside the colony, killing it off. Another solution is the sugar substitute, Equal or Nutri-Sweet. These have been known to be poisonous to ants. Just pour it around the hill and you will see little any bodies laying around in a couple days. Like the others have said, if it's garden ants let them be - unless it's a huge infestation. Comments (5)Floridabear - except moving to the Antarctica... There are no ants in Antarctica! Get your plant out of the house in a shade, drench it with something - I would try house hold Clorax bleach - like 1 part of Clorax- 4 parts of water - pour it into your pot - and let them all run out. They wouldn't like it for sure. Ants live in colonies - so several ants if left do not reinfest anything - they will die from loneliness, poor things. If you have the nest in your house - that's the one you need to get rid off - otherwise they will fill your house - and sleeping with ants in your bed... they sting. You need to check with your local pest control guys - what they recommend. You can put baits with egg yolk mixed with Borax and make them carry their own poson in their nest - but if you want to eradicate them right now - pest control will be better - who knows what else you have - may be termites are eating your walls...Everything is alive in Florida. good luck Irina...See MoreHow to get rid of fire ants in pots without killing plants
Comments (4)I hear that there is some product out there were you can put a ring around a plant and the ants wont cross it so if you submerge the pots again to get rid of the ants and then use that product as a barrier, the ants will not find their way back into the pots and you should be rid of them! Fire ants seem terrible. So far I havent seen any here, but there are tons of other plants that make problems and they are also pretty difficult to get rid of! Good luck! -Alex...See Moregorgi
