Best Way to Label Trees/Bushes
Comments (35)My preferred method to construct aluminum plant tags is to use alum. pie plates or baking pans as your tag material. The 9âÂÂx12â baking pan is of a thinner gauge than say a turkey pan so you have a choice of thickness. Ball point pens work fine to engrave them if you use something soft behind them. To make the hole I use a ice pick or hole punch. My preference is the pick because it allows me to size the hole to the thickness of wire that I use to help minimize the tags from flapping in the breeze. The wire that I use is worth sharing because it stops the alum. from reacting with the wire the way regular steel wire does and it is cheap and pliable. I use .014 stainless steel lock wire [1 lb. coil] from Harbor Freight Tools. $7.99 their # 08895, it even comes with a plastic case and belt clip. Another trick I use to stop that flapping in the breeze effect is to leave an extra 6â or so after I secure the tag with a loop and use this extra wire to tie the tag to the branch by LOOSLY wrapping it around the tag and branch together. Painting the baking pans after sandpapering them and priming them and before cutting them to size also goes a log way to stopping that shiny ornament effect when grafting on branches to your fruit trees but the paint does not have the lifespan the alum. does....See MoreLabel markers that last?
Comments (8)Not sure what they are called, but there are these copper tags where you can kind of "sketch" in the writing. In other words, you don't make a mark with a writing utensil like a marker or pencil, you simply "carve" in the letters so that they make an imprint. I will try to find the ones I have and send you a picture. Gabi...See MorePermanent Markers for Plant Labelling
Comments (8)The Aluminum tags from LV are supposed to be used with a ball point pen. Put on a pad of paper, and press fairly hard. You aren't writing ON the aluminum. You are engraving INTO the aluminum. You won't see any ink transfer. Avery makes a line of weatherproof laser labels. They work for at least 5 years. Shippers supply carries "Art Line" paint pens. These work well on coreplast. (Corregated plastic from Home Depot, Rona, etc.) Get the black. Yellow and blue coreplast seem to be quite resistant to sunlight. Use a bent coat hanger as a stake. I've had these last for at least 5 years....See MoreBest Plant Markers Ever!!!
Comments (31)I went to Walmart the other day and found that they have permanent silver and gold paint markers. They work good and I think they will not fade since it is paint but they do take quite a few minutes to dry and are hard for me to see on a white background. Wish I could find the same type of paint markers in black. My WM has black paint markers in various widths -- and lots of other colors too. They're in the Craft section; the brand is Elmer's. Try Michael's, JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, and other specialty craft stores as well: they're likely to have better quality paint markers than WM....See Morehoustmag
