Blue Celeste or Gold Celeste

Good day, I have cuttings from both a Blue Celeste and a Gold Celeste. If you have these 2 trees, then please chime in here.....what is the major difference in these two trees? I have rooted some of the cuttings but it will be months before the jury is out on them. How hardy are these two trees? I know they will grow well in my area. Most of the local trees here are brown turkey and celeste. Any thoughts? Best regards, Dennis

I have one strain of Blue Celeste and several strains of Golden Celeste. Blue Celeste looks to be a variant of Celeste......it is a very good fig giving me two crops a year. The Golden Celeste siblings came out of the LSU breeding program....fruiting characteristics are a bit different with each strain. This is still an active area of my fig trial research. The mother to these LSU strains was Celeste.

I do have a fruited Blue Celeste that, as Dan said, looks like most other "smaller" Celeste(s). Tasted very good.
I STILL wonder what the TRUE Celeste fig REALLY is?!...

As far as the Golden one, I do have one that fruited
that looks like as the LSU one re-named as "Champagne", with
greenish-yellow skin with a very looong neck (I am not impressed with the taste so far).

I also have a small DFIC 161 (seeing pics
on Jon's web site:), a gold-bronwish-yellow skin fig with a
roundish shape (short-neck) and "looks" much more tastey to me.

Also bred by LSU, but "taken-care-off" by (Texas) TAMU from seed...

There are some very sweet and nice brown turkey strains. It gets a bad rap from those that have only experienced bad ones, or ones with an odd flavor. I highly recommend the one from Rolling River Nursery ( rollingrivernursery.com ). It's the best I have encountered, and they sent me a beautiful tree for the money, fast growing and productive too. I have heard good things about the one from OneGreenWorld (Vern's BT), but don't grow it personally). I recommend this over your other two choices. The LSU Gold is not precocious in my experience. It doesn't really start doing much fruitwise until its 4th year, but it's a very nice light fig. The Celeste is a great fruit, but small and not juicy. It may drop its fruit, so if you only have space for one tree, it might not be worth the gamble. I recommend Blue Celeste if you can find it. Good Luck

The distance between nodes is usually controlled by the growth rate of the tree. Slower growing trees (less fertilizer, less water, poorer soil, etc.) will usually have the nodes closer together. A tree growing in rich soil or heavily fertilized will have the nodes farther apart. Dan

kbacci14, your bedroom sounds beautiful and I'm anxious to see it all when you're finished. My bedroom has 3 blue walls and one chocolate accent wall. I'm disappointed in the blue tho. It's not the "grown-up" muted aqua blue I was hoping it would be. It LOOKED that way (still does LOL) on the strip around all the other blues, but by it's self, it looks pastel blue :( I have the same color on the ceiling of the bathroom and it DOES look aqua blue. I kinda wonder if the blue marble would have too much white to be paired with these blue tiles. They have a creamy (yellowish) porcelain frame around them. LMK what you think once you see them in person. DH has the tile laid and should have the grout done this weekend. Then he can set the vanity and cabinet. Granite people should be here sometime next week to template. I don't know the time frame for the install. This is a DIY on the weekend thing so you may be finished before we are LOL Monica
