Buying new marginals every year......
Comments (16)I have fibromyalgia and a ton of plants in a small garden. I decided a long time ago that I was not going to stress out over my ponds. I don't stress gunk in the water nor overgrown plants. In my biggest pond I planted almost everything right into the rocks and just let it go. It is partially shaded so has not ever gotten completely overgrown. I do "weed" the parrot's feather and water celery every year but there are no pots to lift. Waterlilies never grew well in this pond (too much shade) so I grow them in smaller ponds in the front where I've put dirt over the liner. Again, no pots to lift. Some are five years old this year and still don't need dividing. I don't do half the chores many others do on their ponds and I bet you could not tell if you visited. We built the first one in 1996 and it still has rocks on the bottom and water so clear you can see the neighbor's pine cones down there too. The fish and frogs don't care and neither do I....See MoreWhat new annuals did you try this year that you love?
Comments (24)Seniorita Rosalita is a Proven Winner cultivar. I think you have to buy the plants each year. But one plant becomes a nice clump. Salvia farinacea Victoria beside it. The other dwarf cleome are also Proven Winners. They were also striking, though not as dense a clump (slightly larger flowers). As I noted, someone thought it would be a good idea to pick them. While the taller cleome can be nice, they take much more room and, in my experience, soon become seedy. Seniorita has been blooming three months and is more beautiful than ever at about 26 inches....See MoreWhat annual do you end up buying each year?
Comments (44)Impatiens because they're the only flowers that will survive in the shade of my wisteria, and geraniums because they're the only ones that will survive in the containers of the front windows and balconies in the full sun. I now officially hate impatiens and geraniums, but I'll end up planting them anyway because every replacement I tried died. There! I'm glad I got that off my chest! :-)))) Balibar...See MoreDo you need to divide your hosta every few years?
Comments (9)I divide Ginko Craig every 3 or 4 years to maintain its elongated leaves...otherwise the leaves widen out... I also divide Golden Tiara periodically since I find it looks better (more vigorous) when it has about 20 eyes max. Papou What Papou is talking about is a choice not a need and I divide some for appearance or space questions. I've also noted that Tiara's seem to make the fair ring effect fairly quickly, still the plant doesn't "need" to be divided. PS if Papou says so listen! There is no better grower with sounder advice on this forum....See Moretoken28001
