Four More Clematis for the garden.

Yesterday when I was out at the nursery the lupines were not the only thing that I bought. I bought home two more potted clematis. Then later in the afternoon I order two more Clematis from Silver Star Viney.

So the ones I bought locally were another THE PRESIDENT. I needed another clematis to go with the ones I bought locally this past week for my new clematis tower. I just knew that THE PRESIDENT would look fabulous with the ones I had. The colors are really striking together. No matter that I already have one from the vinery, I love it so much I don't mind two :-)) And the tower needs four vines.

Then I also bought a potted LADY BETTY BELFOUR. It is not in bloom, doesn't even have buds yet. Supposed to bloom later like in mid summer even though it is a large flowering type. Prune group 3. I know this because I looked it up at The Silver Star Vinery as they also carry it. But I couldn't resist the local one. I have the perfect spot for that one already picked out.

Then I ordered two more large flowered prune group 2 from Silver Star. Those are TWILIGHT and H F YOUNG. Loved the colors on both of these. They are going with some others I ordered and already planted from the Vinery that would be on a large tall trellis that is along side my garage door.

Rita - good lord, where are you putting all of these plants?? lol. I'm glad to hear the Mr. President it attractive, as I got 2 last fall at $1 each. They are leafing out quite nicely, and will grow up my weathered cedar fence. I also got a Dr. Rupple for $2! I had this at my old home, and am really pleased to have it again - it too is doing well, and I hope I get blooms this year.

Ha, I am very good at squeezing more plants in. Actually these were easy as they are vines so going up and don't take up much space. The only one thats going to take up any real gardenspace is the second clematis tower that I will do from the four local prune group 2 vines.

That will be 19 new clems added for this spring LOL!!!! 14 from Silver Star Vinery and 5 bought locally.

All my new clematises from last year look okay...except the one I bought at a florist/garden center...also bought a yellow jasmine from them and it did nothing either. When I went back and mentioned that the "Radar Love"(Gotta LOVE that name...oh ya, Golden Earring!)wilted and died, she said ya, someone else said that too...then did not bother to speak of a refund or anything...and now the jasmine has not come back...well, it is still early so I better stop right here....but I sure love clematises!!! Bought 7 last yr and i jasmine, 1 virginia creeper, and 3 honeysuckles!!! So I am with ya, Rita, on the not adding much this year...have been looking at a site (15 minute drive away!)that has some certified organic fish compost that I wanna try...even tho it is $75/yard. I do want to get a climbing rose called "joeseph's Coat"! Noticed I have some peonies that didn't do much last year...are poking their heads up!! WhooHoo! Forgot what color they are so they will be a suprise(either pink or red)

I wish I had taken a pic on the hosta society tour of the mature Silk Kimono I saw. It was STUNNING!!! I picked it up a month or so later and knew it had to have a prominent spot in my garden. So, I moved several from a little "bump" in the corner of my garden just so she could stand up high and proud. "Silk Kimono" is the perfect name for the undulations in the leaf edges.

Ron, SPECTACULAR SHOWING OF ROSES AS ALWAYS! Keep those part I, IIs, IIIs going endlessly. Wow, deep color contrasts! That has got to be the most gorgeous St. Patrick's roses. Cajun Firelight and Caribbean are flaming beautiful. Your beautiful Sunset Celebration makes me miss Boxofrox's garden as well. It's one of his most lovely of roses. Pop Warner and Pristine very classical... but uh-oh, ummm, my Lopsided Garden Part I is coming around pretty soon so you have SAVED/rescued our gallery by putting multiple Episodes of your lovely roses before mine makes its Lopsided "Fatal Debut", lol!

Well, I heard back and the two new ones from Silver Star Vinery were shipped out yesterday. I should have them Wednesday.

The President is definitely a fine vine! I am prone to grow group 3s as if they were group 2. They do just fine and you feel free to whack off anything that is growing in the wrong place/wrong direction early in the season without worrying about affecting the flowers.

Those two from Silver Star Vinery, TWILIGHT and H F YOUNG arrived yesterday but it was too rainy to do anything about it. So I planted them first thing today.

As far as the prunning groups, mine used to be all prunning group two. Not that I actually DID any prunning! I just left them. They seemed to have done fine in spite of my errors. I will try to do better and now I know I will have to at least prune my group threes. Group three is new to me but it sounds pretty easy. Cut them way, way back come early spring. Let them grow again. They must be very fast growers.

Kay, I didn't remember the name of the clematis you posted pics of, or maybe you didn't give the name. I was just trying to add the right complementary colors to my mix of clems that I grouped together to cover the garage trellis.

Since I did that clematis tower and I loved the results I grouped two or more together on the same structures as much as possible to have a riot of colors. You know I love lots of color.
