the first flower is Midnight Kenyan Safari, a really nice russet terra cotta colored flower with dark buds. next is Alley Cat Blues, a unique bitone - I like the veining! and third is a seedling from Siloam Rhinestone with a redder tone I think.

the yellow is Siloam College Street , so healthy and bright. Siloam Amazement's FFO this year wasn't as round as I'd like but nice and big and full of color. :) the last photo is a seedling unknown parentage but probably something Siloam like S. Pink Elegance would be my guess. it is a very pretty bright colored lily although flaws: the stems are a bit thin and curvy, and it sometimes doubles or half doubles, but I'm still keeping it! ha

Hi, Dean, do you live close to the Arkansas border? Aren't these where the Henrys daylilies are from? I notice you have these Siloams and wondered if you could get them very easily. But, if you are 7b you should be further south, or is my geography off? Anyway, you have six very nice flowers here, and I like the shape of Siloam Amazement. I also like Alley Cat Blues. Avedon

It is much the same even here in northern California, where this week definitely feels more fall-like, and the nights have cooled enough to close the windows at dusk. This season ushers in the winter rainy season, which hopefully will deliver us from enforced water rationing. We don't see Canadian geese flying overhead here, instead they make a pest of themselves by staying year round! As opposed to further north, this is not a season of endings so much as it is a season for rebirth. I have already noticed the first new shoots of many South African bulbs poking out of the ground, and the subtropical cloud forest plants are all reaching their peak of abundance. The massive amounts of deep burgundy blooms on Salvia splendens 'Van Houttii'that are reaching 8 feet tall and a feast for the hummingbirds, along with the deep red spires of Aloe reitzii in full bloom are personal favorites of early fall for me. The nuisance of 1000's of acorns falling everywhere from the Coast Live Oaks, along with the drought induced self pruning of the Coast Redwoods are the other side of the coin, soon enough the deciduous trees will add to the mess. The days are beautiful in the clear coastal light, but I know I am not quite ready for the chill of winter, mild as it may be by comparison to more northerly climes.

I am so so happy everyone has contributed such gorgeous photos! We really have some great photographers in this forum. Thank you all for sharing!!! You know, I was hoping one of my plants would surprise me with some fresh flowers for my birthday, but all I have going now are lasiantha, javanica, and paulshirleyii. I'm told my lunar birthday falls on June 13th, though, so maybe there will be some more open by then. @ mayyan I really enjoyed flipping back and forth between your wallichii photos and my cystiantha photos. I didn't realize the difference between these two was so dramatic. I guess it really is worth it to collect all the campanulate species if you can swing it. I wouldn't even really say my plant is white looking. It's more of a dark ivory and pink, but wallichii looks super snowy and very rounded. It's lovely! You could never post too many pictures (in my opinion), but I always worry the same thing LOL. @ teisa I think lasiantha just doesn't do well in transit. I agree with Klea that it's easy to grow once you have it. It's a bit fussy about getting the buds to come to fruition, but it puts them out so constantly I quit sweating it. You win some you lose some and the buds are super big and pretty either way.

llhowland's suggestion of Highland Park would be a treasure in late May. There is the park itself, the Conservatory and the Castle (home of the Rochester Civic Garden Center)and its grounds. Plus the street connecting them is a trip unto itself. Their small front yards are spectacular and I've even been invited by a few of the residents to "come and see what's growing out back"! It's good to 'meet' another Siloam fancier. I have started a nice collection of the Siloams myself and they do very well here where it's cold. I think that's awesome that you worked with Mrs. Henry! What an honor to have been a part of her work. I hope you will continue to show us your collection. My favorites of this batch of beauties are Siloam Amazement and Alley Cat Blues.

Your seedling out of Siloam Rhinestone is fabulous! I like the vibrant color, the roundness and the gentle ruffling. Siloam College Street is the other one that caught my eye.

The last one is a favorite color combination of mine and my favorite. Every garden should have the color combo of the 3rd and I like the form as well.
