Picea mariana Photo Gallery 2010

Wish I had more of this wonderful species. Fantastic short, multicolored needles and great cones on very nice shaped trees. A few cultivars from my garden, please feel free to share any you want.

Picea mariana 'Aureovarigata'. A great cultivar, it turns very bright gold anywhere the sun strikes the needles while the undersides of the tree remain a bluish-green. Maybe even some silver hues are present. This tree grows quickly into a relatively narrow cone, 10-20 inches a year.

A closeup on the great coloration.

Picea mariana 'Ericoides'. I think this plant is incorrectly labeled and perhaps is 'Nana'. I know there's been considerable confusion over the years. It does like similar, but different to...

Picea mariana 'Nana'. Per Edwin, this plant is not Picea glauca 'Echiniformis' but rather 'Nana'. Edwin can certainly help here.

Picea mariana 'Blue Tear Drop'. A lovely plant, I coveted a specimen ever since I saw Dave's in his garden photos.
