I thought I would start a thread of things that we on the FN have purchased this year, 2007, that are garden related items.

My DH bought me a garden cart on Tuesday. I have varnished it a few times so that it will be more weatherproof. They recommend in the directions to varnish it once a year. Of course, that is mentioned at the end of the assembling directions. I am hoping to hook the cart onto my bike and pull it to the end of the lane (1000 feet away) and use the cart to bring back flax from the flax pile there.

I also bought this garden mat at Superstore the other day. It is perfect for in front of the greenhouse to wipe my feet on instead of the old little bathroom mat that was there before.

Great idea Brenda!
I'll have to hold off posting pics, until my new deck, picket fence and green house are constructed...right now all I have to show are piles of lumber. ;o)

Unless you want to see piles of lumber, trailers of compost, and bags of bark, I can't show anything besides plants. I don't do much decoration beyond wood and rock!

Greg...I don't often post here.l....but breezed in tonight. Let me give it a try. 1. Typically I purchase mulch, bone meal. blood meal and alfalfa meal...not much more but plants. 2. I usually buy at the farm and home store. 3. shop online for plants, not supplies. 4. I choose to buy form Thieson's and The Seed Store because they carry what I want at a good price. 5. The products I buy are organic by their nature. 6. Typical cost per year or per purchase? need clarity. Good luck on your study.

Gyr, where is your nursery? I know you're in S. OC, so not that far from me. That's one way to gain experience for sure :-) For me, it was becoming a Master Gardener. When we had to move to Indiana from California back in 1996, I decided that before I ended up killing everything in my yard (nearly none of which I was familiar with), I ought to learn how to garden in zone 5. Best money I ever spend with respect to gardening. I am trying to get my MG certification in California, now, but classes are during the daytime, and I'm still working full time. Hoping that I can try to take one afternoon off every week for the length of the course next year, though. Really would like to get my MG certification here as well, since we're not planning on moving out of state, again (since we're parked in paradise, now, lol!!) So, any MG course that you can take that focuses on either the foundations of gardening, if you're wanting something basic, or, focuses on an area of gardening you'd like to learn more about or specialize in would be your best bet. Sorry,...I've got nothing to share.
This is a really nice cart!...about the easiest to roll around in the yard!
I have build a similar one, [for lawn tractor] using the kids bike wheel and fork, a little bit of welding was needed.

Last night my Dh made me a double trellis for in the side front flower bed. This will give a bit of privacy to the sitting area...and something to tie my new roses to. I already have a clematis planted there...hope it comes back. Sorry don't have pics yets.

My cart is something like yours Brenda, DH built me it years ago, it can be pushed manually and it can be attacted to the back of our riding lawnmower. It sure comes in handy for big loads.

Well this isn't a purchase, but it is a new acquisition.
I spotted this tree root on the river bank after the high water receded and convinced my DH to haul it home for me.
We positioned it in the flower bed last night. What do you think of it? It is rather large, but the plant at the back left is Aruncus, so that should balance it out I think.

I like the old tree root! It will look great when all the plants are flowering and mature around it.

The fountain is what is new. It will even be a nice bird bath without the pump going.I was planning on putting it in my front yard, but have changed my mind after my one light went missing. The other light is tucked beside it now.

I've been wanting to put some trellis in the corners of the deck to put pots with climbers on. My DM found these heavy ones on sale at 60% off for $24 each.They stand 6' yet when sunk into the ground.
