Congrats on the purchases AND the job offer!

Well I got the tags off the roses and two are Rosa English 'Tamora' and the other two are Chrysler Imperial Hybrid Tea Rose. I sure hope they get enough sun where we want to plant. Also might have to rearrange the layout a bit based on some of my research. I'll figure it out more once I actually get out there to work on it.

I spot a Samoyed back there. I am the past "mother" of two large males, and as you probably know, you can spot one a mile away. I love your weeping maple. I can even imagine a spot in my yard for one, so I thank you very much. Please don't tell me your Samoyed is off-leash. Our two would have run far, far away until they were older. Aren't they love-bugs?

patann - Actually she's not a Samoyed, she's an American Eskimo and she's almost 11 years old! Her name is Taz and our squirrel hunter... she's never caught one yet as they're too fast but she sure tries. I yell at her every time she goes after the bees though... I keep trying to explain to her that bees are good... squirrels are bad! LOL. And BTW, there she's tied on her leash although we do let her loose at times when we're outside to watch her... she got sprayed by a skunk two weeks ago and has been spending all her time outside and in the garage as the smell still hasn't left her and I don't wanna bath her too much with the cold, damp weather plus it'll dry out her skin too much.

On a side note, those roses that we bought ALL have Blackspot! I doubt the nursery will take them back as they were on sale... so guess I'm fighting a disease even before I have a single plant in the ground *sighs* Guess that's what happens when I don't look at the plants BEFORE we buy them.. DH was the one that picked them out and he doesn't know about BS.

ooooooh, I love your new Green Weeping Japanese Maple.... very pretty and unique...

TY... I just love the leaves on it... so fragile looking. It gets quite a beautiful color in the fall as well and it will get a darker green in the summer.

I love the maple. Just as an aside to you...if you aren't going to get it planted quickly, be sure it i sitting where you want to plant it. DH fooled around, and the maple I post in pictures, planted itself. There was no moving it, so that required a nice wall so we could have the dirt it needed.

Yours is a beauty and I know you will love it. I'm sorry about the black spot. We always have to fight it in Alabama, but it's a pain, isn't it? Be glad DHis interested.

Mine is glad I garden because of the wonderful effects on my health, but I can't imagine him picking out a rose bush.

Oh, I love japanese maples! And that green one is so pretty and unique! I have killed at least three of them, so I now try to stay away from them (we have horrible soil here).

I love Tamora. She is such a pretty color - I think you'll really enjoy her. Don't know CI, but I understand it is supposed to be a good one.

kay - LOL it planted itself?? Musta been there for a little while... our's will be planted before the end of the week, I hope. That's if we can afford the soil and other supplies for the beds after I just spent almost $400 on those plants and the lilies I just ordered from Brent & Becky's! ;-) Also, I'm VERY happy that DH is so interested in these gardens... his mother used to be quite the gardener and she loved her plants so I think that's where he gets it from. He may try to hide it from me but I can tell he gets almost as excited as I do about plants!

holleygarden - That's too bad that the JM that you tried to plant didn't survive... I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with your abilities as a gardener though... so don't feel bad. From what I've seen of the roses we bought online I'm pretty sure I'll love them too... we'll be buying more this week to fill out that bed so I hope I can at least get that BS under control before we plant. I will be getting rid of the foliage/canes that are infected as much as possible and then spraying regularly all season should help.... I hope!

I'll be sure to post photos after everything is planted. Hopefully my lilies will show up this coming weekend so I can plant them too... got A LOT of work to do before we can plant anything though... gotta have some beds to plant in!

At that time, I had to wait for DH to plant, which could involve a lot of time.

When I say my garden is my therapy, I really mean it. I have some health issues that have been dramatically improved by gardening.

So yes, it had been there for a while. And the tap root reached to "China".

I can't wait to see your new beauties planted. Wow! You really have some lilies on the way, don't you? I had to order a few more bulbs from them myself this week, tube roses and some tropical looking red thing I couldn't resist.

kay - from the photos that you posted of your gardens you can't tell you have any kind of health issues... I know I have back and knee/hip problems and even at my young-ish age I sometimes have difficulty getting around... especially when it's damp out or the pressure changes!

I'm hoping that we can get the beds ready quite soon as I am anxious to plant everything... not sure if I made the right choice to buy the lilies yet as I don't want to loose any by having to store them. I have about 60 bulbs coming right now and I'm planning on getting more in the fall.

I will be posting progress photos on here too if nobody minds when we actually start making some progress that is... right now though I can't do anything cuz we're getting a new roof put on. We lost quite a few shingles in the bad wind storms we had a few weeks ago.... just greatful we don't have to pay for it!

It won't take a long time to plant them and they will be so gorgeous. The ones I planted last week are already beginning to break ground.

I will confess to using a device I got from Gardener's supply (no money or interest in the company). to plant all those hundreds I planted in the fall. It is a hollow metal"bulb planting" cylinder that attaches to a drill. I planted a hundred tulips in a little over an hour with it.

kay - I know exactly what you're talking about! I was going to buy one but DH told me that he had something in his van that would work perfectly! It's probably what they sell actually... it's a 2" diameter boring drill bit used to drill through wood. They come in various sizes and lengths though and he's got a whole kit! Guess I'm going to be "borrowing" his! :-))

Cheryl, you will be extremely happy with your japanese maple purchase. I have a 'Viridis' that I planted about 8 years ago and it makes such a statement. It is probably now about 6' tall and I would say as wide. The fall color is gorgeous! We've had some issues with snow load on the tree and surprisingly were able to save it on 2 occasions when I thought for sure it was a gonner. We did some "surgery" to mend it back together. Now the tree turns different colors on the top and the bottom in fall! I'm so happy for you. It's an outstanding tree.

thyme - Thanks for letting me know about snow load being a potential problem as the area that tree will be planted is in an unprotected area. I actually sat it outside in the spot today and yesterday and it got blown over and damaged some branches! :-( Guess the wind was too strong with it still being in it's pot. Gotta get it out of the pot soon as I'm almost 100% sure it's rootbound! You can see how small the pot is in the photos.

kay - I plan on borrowing that tool... I know how much easier it'll be to use instead of a trowel.
