The only one on your list I have is Lavender Blue Baby. I planted in the Spring and it bloomed for me the first year. Great plant.

I have Sabine Bauer. When I saw the picture of it, I liked the shape and color but it's shape is not what was pictured. I admit I am attracted by the nice pictures, my downfall. Now I check out Tinkers before I buy. For me the flowers are to big and 'blousy'. After 6 years, it still has only 4 flower stalks. I'm thinking of getting rid of it. Maybe someone else has better luck with it. Marg

Oh, me too! Prior to this season, all I had was Stella, Happy Returns and Pardon Me. I took the plunge big time this winter, (won't tell you how much I spent), but unfortunately I plunged before I knew how to swim. After all that crazy buying on the LA, I found this forum and began to do some proper research. I learned that your region is important and that some lilies which perform spectacularly is one region can be lackluster in another. If you can find a local grower, close enough to visit, that would be the best.

I can't offer any comments on your selections, but have fun and happy gardening.

The only one of those I have is Shores Of Time, and it's wonderful! They all sound like money well spent to me.

i have all of them. the only one i'm really not happy with is sabine baur, it's a pretty flower, but a lousey grower with low bud count. after four years its still only one fan. my how beautiful heaven must be is doing better than that.

I don't have any of those, but a couple are on my wish list. esp, Shores of Time, and it just moved up my list thanks to Debra's comment, See that is the good info you can get here!!! I discovered the auction this past winter, and LOVE it, getting lots of really good plants very soon plus I feel like I am getting really good buys. So of course, that frees me up to get more!!!!! Have fun, it is just so exciting.

I have Shores of Time but it is new this year so I can't comment on its performance.

Sabine Baur did not do well here. Like others, I thought the flower was pretty but the plant growth/bloom was pitiful. It disappeared completely last year.

I gave Mildred Mitchell to a friend who admired the bloom, so I can't tell you how well it is doing for her.

All of those grow ( and have grown) here for a while except for MOVE OVER, most of them since they first came out. All do well in this climate except for DOYLE PIERCE. In fairness, it might be one which resents being touched. I grew it for two years as a club plant. It only went from one to three fans in two years. Last year I had to dig it up and was back to one fan. This spring it is still one fan. I've lost patience with those which have to be mollycoddled along. If this one doesn't shape up by next spring, it' outta here!

Sorry to hear all the bad reports on Sabine Baur. The only reason I ordered it was to try something that was in the top 5 list for my region (and the pictures were pretty). So I guess I'll see how it does!

Hi Deanna,
'Sabine Baur' was in the top five of AHS Region 14 Popularity Poll results. If you are in MO, then you would be in Region 11. I believe 'Sabine Baur' does better in the south than north, so plant it on the south side where it will get the most sun and heat and mulch it well in the winter. It's awfully pretty, probably worth the extra trouble.

I have SHORES OF TIME, and it is a great flower. I had it in a bad spot, and it sulked... now it is in a pot awaiting its new home (wherever that may be???). Waiting to see if it does better this year.

DOYLE PIERCE died right after I got it. Spend a small fortune on it too. Thankfully the vendor was very, very nice and sent me a nice fan of BLUE HIPPO to replace it.

MILDRED MITCHELL is a great all around plant. Beautiful flower, great plant, buds and branching.

I've read that SHORES OF TIME survives in colder zones Have not tried it here yet but will be bringing in WREN'S SONG and LESLIE RENEE which I think are sibs to SOT.

Sounds like you've got a great grouping coming in and let us know how they do in your zone 5 garden.

Soil was too sandy and on a slope,therefore had zero water retention and zero loam (nutrients). All the daylilies I planted in this bed really suffered for a full year - which had nothing to do with the CV's themselves.

Funny thing is... I think I lost the marker for my SOT... but I know it is in a pot and I only have one without a marker. Guess I'll wait till bloom season to make sure!

I think I have an illness. I just ordered two more - Westbourne Good Old Days and Spacecoast Starburst. Eeks!

I have Mildred Mitchell and SPacecoast Starburst. They don't mind Ohio's cold weather-and it was miserable here this winter! My Dad just gave me some Lavender Blue Baby last fall and it's come up ok also. I love Mildred Mitchell!

I know that feeling too. I bought my fist named DL this year. Not too costly yet I'm sure next year I will take the plung. Needed to get my feet wet first. Did get some seeds from some nicer ones and I am sure in a couple of year when they bloom that will just fule the fire. Annette

Deanna, you dont' have an illness, it's a very happy chronic condition!!! Hey, there are just sooooo many different and great daylilies out there. Someone on another forum said they had CHAD, that's Compulsive Horticulture Acquisition Disorder. I think that can apply to daylilies too!!!! So, lets see, we all have CDAD.!! Compulsive Daylily Acquisition Disorder!

Ha---I agree with that. 3 years ago I only had 2 daylilies--Chicago Sunrise and Mini Pearl. At the last count I had over 40. And it is all my Dad's fault for showing me a daylily catalogue he got in the post and asking me which I wanted!! I was very restrained to begin with (just buying Wisest of Wizards and Beat the Barons) but soon added more, and more, then I discovered Lily Auction and found I could have seeds sent to the UK, and so on------!

Last year was the first year for Sabine Baur in my garden. Only had one scape but gave me beautiful flowers. This year it has 3 scapes, so I am hopeful. I have Mildred Mitchell and love it. Believe me, I have had buyers remorse more times than I can count. I've been addicted for about 4 years now. At last count I have 120 different daylilies and about 20 that I hybridized myself. My advice is to have fun!

Oh, I definitely have CHAD! LOL!
