Buying single fans

Many of the "cutting edge" and "newer intros" on the LA, are sold as single fans. I have purchased a single fan 3 separate times and although healthy, they have not increased or bloomed, even tho they are almost 2 years old. Why is this????

I find it interesting that they seem to need "company" to increase....so no more single fans for me, even if it's one I REALLY want!! .....but it sure is tempting at times ;o)

dayliliesrus also posted another good reason to avoid single fans, in 'The Sting of Daylily Losses' thread:

"If daylilies are broken up after received to sell again or just share, you are putting further stress on a daylily. A lot of people receive plants in the fall and then split them up to sell on the LA or Ebay to help pay for the shipment they just received. All of this is stress on a plant that is already stressed by the first digging and the shipment not to mention the stress on the plant kept. It is one reason why I rarely will buy one on either site that is a SF."
