pashta, I do have some old ones. I need to take a new group of photos, but am delaying doing it until about late March/ early APril, the reason being, my stream is located inside my greenhouse, which is 1700+ square feet permanent structure. Its more like a tropical house at a botanical garden that a greenhouse, as almost everything is actually planted into the ground. The stream is 20 feet long, and at its most shallow is about an inch deep, at its deepest, about 6-8 inches. It ends in a still pool that's about 2-2.5 ft deep, probably about 40-50 gallons. The water originated in the still pool, and is pumps 20 feet down to a small rock waterfall at the other end, and it recirculates that way. The greenhouse is filled to bursting now with what I call my "winter freeloaders" (containerized plants that live outdoors from about March 15th til Christmas) and its extremely hard to get in there and work around all that to have proper vantage points to set up the camera and tripod for good photographs. I can post a few older ones so that you can get the feel of what the stream actually looks liek, but keep in mind that a lot of the streamside plantings have perhaps doubled or even tripled in size since this last set was taken.

That is a lot of work, haven't tried that yet, but it probably is much more labor & dirt fill than I imagined or would even want to tackle. I don't have room for veggies, darn, but somebody gave me a tomato so I planted it on the side of the house and stuck a cage over it, threw some partially rotted leaves on it for mulch. I've only set out my poppies so far, had 3 milk jugs of them, they looked so filled out in the jugs and now that they are in the ground, they look blah, smallish, hope they fill out, am hoping with these "plugs", they will self seed. The weather has been ideal when not too soggy soil for transplanting, overcast mostly, don't like to transplant in the sun if at all possible. I don't know about the rest of you, but I think salvia does better if you plant much later when it's warmed up some. Last year I started them in the house, but they grew crooked, had to stake them, then they did strengthen and straighten up when I finally transplanted them outside after little/no hardening off, window open w/screen was it. I notice several have commented about failures with various types of salvia. All mine have sprouted, about 6 containers of them, started them about a month ago outside where they get a little bit of sun, too hot, go to shade. I've got several KFC-type containers, the germination rate isn't great, but plenty. Tonight I want to get all my blue crystal (a lot of those) transplanted into 6 packs because I want to space them out with white zinnias I also transplanted into 6 packs for right in front. The other stuff, I will slice, dice, and plop lol. I'm waiting for it to get bigger and stronger so it can tolerate being put into the garden areas and only being watered once a day or less. If you put it in too small in a dry place, you have to mist it a lot, same if you remove the plastic lids which sometimes I have to do. I wanted to get one of those swan neck hoes, they are very expensive, and now the place online that carries the kind I wanted is out. One thing I've found that is a great help to me when I'm transplanting from 6 packs or up to 16 oz plastic cups is to use a bulb planter, makes it go a lot faster and not so hard on my back. I've got 3 now, one horrid, one if you step on it hard and twist and twist does ok, so I bought one with jaws at HD last year and a trigger release in the handle. I like that one, but sometimes wet soil gets stuck in it plus I don't think it will tear through sod without an awful struggle for naturalizing bulbs, have to use my drill and augur for that & still run into probs. Just some thoughts on a wet, cold day, my first year for ws'ing, only 10 jugs, all but one germinated but sparsely except poppies too thick. The failure was one I wanted a lot, have another pack of seeds but they may not be any good and take forever to germinate. That's why I have a packet of Russian sage sitting unopened, takes too long.

Congrats, Midnight. Growing a clivia to blooming size from seed is a great accomplishment. I hope you'll start a separate thread with pics once the blooms are open. Great plants! Socks, Disneyland and I have a lot in common, heh heh, and no, not because I'm "goofy"! I like a lot of the plants they use, and how they create such cheerful/jarring combinations. I just planted a bare root 'Disneyland' rose, which, while not jarring, is certainly perky like the many they have planted there. I've been gardening since I was five years old and have reached the point where I just plant what I enjoy and what makes me smile, so "tastemakers" be damned, lol. The brighter, taller, and stinkier, the more I like my orange marigolds. I actually struggle to find non-dumpy dwarf types. Usually I get them from Select Seeds or Seeds of Change...what about you? Here's what I did: I always have extra tomato plants even after I give them away to friends and relatives. I used to just drop them off at the local community garden with a sign FREE PLANTS. A few years ago, I started labeling all my plants with plant info, my hobby farmÂs name and email address on each plant. Two years ago, I took all my spare plants to the local community garden and posted a sign FREE on them. The difference is this time I stayed with the plants for a few hours and handed the plants out along with information. Most of what I raise are heirlooms so many of the community gardeners were unfamiliar with them. I received several emails over the course of that season from those gardeners, many were thank you and some were with questions. I saved every one of those email addresses. Then 15th of March of last year, I sent out emails to all those gardeners, plus my entire address book offering tomato plants for sale in time for spring planting which around here is Memorial Day plus or minus a week. I told folks what I was raising and that I would be selling them this year. I gave folks the option of reserving plants or taking their luck first come, first serve on the 2 sale days I would be having at my house. I got a few checks and a lot of emails. Then as the "Sale Days" approached, I posted the dates on Craigs List. I potted all the plants up to 4" pots about 2-3 weeks before the sale, hardened them off and charged $4 each for them, 4 for $15, 7 for $25. The pots were beautiful 4" pots I got 10 for $1 from Christmas Tree Shops. I sold every plant and added to my database with new email addresses from the Guest Book I had out at the sale.
