wanted: plants i can put into my aquarium in ma

I have 3 strong rooted cuttings of a raspberry-purple Easter cactus (will fit in a 3 1/2-4 inch pot) to trade for plants I can put into my AQUARIUM that I keep my 3-4inch KOI in. Mostly looking for stonewart, hornwort, micro sword, radican sword, and anubius nana or anything that will NOT harm the fish (they do tend to eat everything they can get in their mouth) or over grow the tank quickly.If you would like to take a look at the plant it is a rooted cutting of the photo shown in the hortiplex plant database on this web sight under the name Hatiora gaertneri but the cuttings are a little smaller than the one in the photo.Thank you for looking.

I have read that it is possible to put ordinary pothos into an aquarium and that it is safe for fish to eat. The fish waste is supposed to feed the pothos. The pothos generally floats, but can be stuck into the bottom material.

Supposedly this also can be done with ordinary spathiphyllum, except they do have to be stuck into the gravel or whatever is at the bottom.

This aroid thing is apparently not a stunt, but something that can be done long-term. There are webpages about this thing which I have seen, but I don't have URLs. Sorry for the late reply, but I ran across this while I was scanning the forum.

There is not much Koi will not eat!!! I hope it is a big aquarium. They don't eat frogbit, but it will grow over the top very fast. Why don't you try the aquatic plant exchange?I have seen somebody offering hornwort, but cant remember if it was at gardenweb or watergardening.com

Thanks, both of you, for your suggestions. Kayjones, I did try my local pet store, but the guy there seemed to have mostly plastic plants in his aquariums and was only able to dig up one live one for me. Eahamel, you're probably right that it's getting too late to mail plants now. Back when I posted, we were still having a few nights above freezing. But that's probably over for a while now! I do have unusual seeds to swap and some cuttings rooting on my windowsill--things like variegated abutilons, tropical hibiscus, etc.--that I could probably trade eventually. But those take longer at this time of year, and I think only the fuchsias and impatiens have already rooted.

I am getting 6 Dwarf Gouramis soon from someone who didn't want them and it was either me or they got flushed so I agreed to take them. But now I need some plants I have very few plants in my tank and they definately aren't good cover or hiding places for these little fish. So if anyone has any to spare at all I will gladly and willingly take them. Can I use 65W 6700K Aquarium Light to start seeds

Yes, a high intensity bulb would solve the problem of plants acclimated to low-intensity that are placed outside in the spring. I recommend a 400w Ceramic Metal halide (with magnetic ballast) if you're on a budget, or the Sun-Pulse PSMH bulbs (with appropriate digital ballast) if you want the best. Because these bulbs approximate natural sunlight spectrum. The Sun-Pulse has a bigger selection for spectrum. 6700K is fine for seedlings. However 65w is limited in intensity. Also you don't state what type of bulb or reflector you have. CFL?
