Jan, I knew you'd be getting blooms soon. You are usually a couple of weeks behind me. Looks like AB is going to be a pretty one!

Actually, I just came in from walking the garden and as usual Cosmic Hummingbird was really the first to bloom. It had two blooms from yesterday and several more open today. I didn't walk that area yesterday as I was working on a bed out back all day. :) I've got to run an errand so don't have time for a pic of CH right now. I'll do one later.

Jan, Annabelle's Blush is really looking good. I also got this one from Maryott's last year and can't wait to see her bloom. I think Bill sent about 7 fans! I have only seen scapes on one I planted last fall and several that were added this spring. It will be quite a while before I see blooms here. Please show us more.

Wonderful way to kick off the season Jan! I uncovered all my Winter pots this am. I am very happy to say: Not Even One Loss!! Not bad for containers from one gallon to 3 gallon. Same place on the concrete blocks and covered with about 6 inches of finely ground up leaf mulch, with bricks stacked for a windblock on the North and West sides. Considering this Winter had so little snow cover and very cold temps. Maybe it will be a good Daylily year...:) Keep the pic's coming Jan!!

Very nice, Jan. I just read Maryott's description of the flower, and they call it "pale orange." Yours sure looks much more appealing than their description.

maximus7116: I think the website(Maryott's) made an error as I just looked at Dave's Garden Website and its listed as Pink/Cream/Tan and there is a pic (from Maryott's posted by someone). Jan's pic looks like its twin sister ;-).

Chris: Thanks. :) I think maybe there was a mistake on the description. None of the photos I've seen of it look orange at all.

Julia: LOL..I'll have to wait for more blooms. Got lots of scapes but nothing else blooming except Cosmic Hummingbird which I didn't get an opportunity to make a photo of today.

Very pretty, Jan! I found it in the AHS Daylily Database...it says a 6 inch bloom...wow! So nice to see blooms and such perfect looking ones.

For what it's worth....the registered color is: very pale orange with dark pink eye above slight yellow green throat

Love those ruffles on AB. AHS database also says it's 30" high. I like the ones that get about that height.

GG...it is a very large bloom. I think ever who described it must have been color blind. :) There's no way I would have said it was pale orange. If you look at it on Maryott's website, my photo looks almost identical to theirs. Do you think it looks at all orange? Well whatever they call it, I think it's very pretty. LOL

blue23rose: I must have been typing my response to GG's post when you posted. :) It does have pretty ruffles, doesn't it? I hope it does get to be 30 inches, but this first scape is very short. Of course that's not unusual for a newly planted dl. I'll be watching it for a much taller one next season though.

Jan - what a pretty bloom! I love buying from the Maryott's. I save my pennies every year for a fall shipment - I can't get an order in the middle of June or they would fry into crispy critters. Been there, done that. :o( I think the base color could be described as a light orange sherbert or something. ??

Jan, I actually purchased AB for 2 reasons - I liked the bloom and I also bought it for the name. Your picture confirms that I made a good choice! Bill is extremely generous and all the daylilies I got from him last fall are looking good.

Jan - do you think that Cosmic Hummingbird would thrive here in southern Michigan. I am in Zone 6. It is just a
small area on the southeastern lakeshore.

We have fairly mild climate, even the winters don't last
forever. I really want that plant but would like to be
quite sure it would thrive here.

Kay: I think CH would grow just fine for you there. It seems to be real hardy plant. In any event, it's an inexpensive one so I'd say go for it. I don't know if you would get the rebloom on it that I do, but you might get 1 rebloom anyway. It's listed as semievergreen as are lots of them, but it's pretty much an evergreen here.
