Oh, how pretty!
My Texas Bluebonnets seedlings are coming UP! I am so thrilled! Can't wait for them to bloom! Hope mine are as pretty as yours. I get an email every spring from my very ecstatic little granddaughter who lives in Texas, telling me that the Bluebonnets are blooming! They are her favorites.
Thank you Ladybird for all you did to make sure we have them for everyone to enjoy today!

I don't know what the pink is, but it sure is pretty.

The iris looks like one of mine. I sure hope they bloom this year after the move.

I have something that looks similar to the pink popping up in an area that was covered in dead limbs and leaves last year. I'm curious to see if it's a weed or a plant I want to keep.

Is it impatiens balsamina? We used to call them, 'touch-me-nots'?

They come in a multitude of colors.

Annie, I am glad your bluebonnets are up.
Once Lady Bird began the push to save the wild flowers, the state began giving an annual award to the section foremen with the highway dept. This was for whom ever did the best job of beautifying the highways.
I can't remember what year, but late 70's I think, Daddy was first runner up. The fellow that won lived in Johnson City, hmmmmmm

He was so proud to go to the Johnson Library in Austin and getting meet her.

Nell, I was just going to post that they look similar to balsam impatiens. This is a cluster of flowers and the leaf is longer and more narrow.
I have a "gillion" peach colored balsam Imps. coming up in the front.
I'll go try to take a better pic.

I can see that the leaf is a bit serrated and about 3" long.

OK, I sacrificed a bloom to examine. It is one very fluffy bloom from the one bud. Note that the 1 1/2 cm bud is fuzzy and emerges at the joint of the leaf and stem.

That peachy flower is really lovely. I was going to say a balsam, but for its tallness. I love Balsams. Bought some seeds two weeks ago to start again this year, in fact. Maybe it is a throw back of some by-gone Balsam flower variety.

We have lost many species of flowers since the 1800s, sad to say. Flowers that were tossed to the wayside as old-fashioned flowers - not showy or fancy enough for later flower snobs. Many had things bred out of them, like color variations and fragrances, in order to increase flower size or some other quality thought to be more important. Sad to know that they are long gone. Mankind thinks it knows better than God. When will will ever learn!

He married for the 2nd time at age 87.

Those Okies are hardy stock. You may recall that he was born near Wellston, OK.

And my dad thinks he is old at age 85. He will be 86 in April. Despite his moaning and groaning, he still dances, gardens full throttle and does more then men half his age. So, yes, I guess he has slowed down a tad. (wink)

Wellston, as you know, is but a stone's throw from here. There is a vineyard near there now that you can tour and sample. I have been curious to go take a look and perhaps buy some of their wares (slurp). Now that Oklahoma finally passed a law allowing Oklahoma vineyards to sell their wares within our own state, they are putting up their signs along the highways all over the state. There were more than we knew! If you come up, we'll have to take the tour!!!

Kathy, do you think your pink flower could be a Clarkia, possibly imbricata? My gran used to grow this and your pink flower reminds me of her Clarkia from years ago.
