Sand cherry, Beach plum?

Up in northern Michigan on the dunes off Lake Superior I saw and tasted something my friend called "sand cherries." Not too bad. They were reddish purple inside and out, had a cherry type pit. Now I'm looking for a small shrub that will grow in mottled shade in my yard under some small trees, and I'm seeing two shrubs lised in an edible landscaping book, one is sand cherries and the other is beach plum, (sorry, I don't have the scientific names off the top of my head). I'm wondering which would be better? I'd like to have enough of the fruit to add to jam, maybe raspberry jam.

I've read some things on this forum saying that sand cherries aren't too prolific. Boy, on those dunes they sure were, but that was full sun. How about beach plums? Anyone have any experience with them.

Thanks for your help!
