Anyone grow Baby's Breath in the south?

I'm really considering planting some baby's breath this year next to my roses. I figured if it looks good in a vase with roses it might look nice planted next to one of them. Anyway, it says in the BS catalog that it's best for coldest states not for southern states. That doesn't mean you can't grow it, right? So anyone in the southern states growing it and how does it do?

I've wintersowed some this year for the first time. I don't know how well it does in the south, but I can let you know at the end of this summer hopefully!

Meghan, I've tried to grow Baby's Breath twice with no luck. We get hot and humid in the summer here - just like you and I guess the pros are correct with this one.

You might consider Euphorbia "Diamond Frost". It looks a bit like baby's breath and is a wonderful plant for hot humid conditions. I've had this plant two years and a row and love it. I even brought some in this year to see how it would winter-over in the garage. Its looking great and as soon as I can I'll be planting it in the beds outside.

I think there are different types of Baby Breath. I had one that was a thug in my garden, it took me a couple of years to get rid of it, but I remember another one in my grandmother's garden that didn't spread at all, both are perennials, the one in my grandmother's garden was the one the florists use. I'm getting ready to move from West Virginia to SC myrtle beach and I wanted to know if I could take my grape vines with me and if they would survive there. I just bought a chardonnay grape vine but, I'm not that worried about it.The one that really matters to me is a concord grape. The concord grape vine has been at my grandparents house for three generations and I would love to take part of it with me. So two questions will they grow and how do I take a piece of the concord grape vine with me? Do I use the seeds or cut off part of a vine and stick in some dirt? Blooming in flushes sounds nice! I don't spray either. I don't mind a little black spot and my garden is really very casual and spread out and no one can see if from the street lol, so I'm not really that picky. Of course, if it was so bad that it affected the health of the plant so it couldn't bloom then I might reconsider. I've got a back acre on one side of the property that has absolutely nothing (garden wise) on it except some trees around the perimeters. It is kinda hideous right now with tangled brush, wild little trees that sprouted up, and stuff I need to clear out. I want to make some nice garden rooms with roses back there and I need some that can get large. There is a fence on only one side of it between us and the neighbor and the barn and well on the other side. The back, backs up to woods that belong to the city and they don't keep it up at all so its like some huge thicket. I am planting Mermaid along the back to keep out trespassers lol, but not sure what else. Do you have your Purple Skyliner in full sun?

Hmmm, the Euphorbia "Diamond Frost" does look close so maybe I could try that. I'll have to look more into it. Thanks Vikki!

I grow it here in hot CA. It was 90-100+ last summer and it did well. I succession seed the annual and it did real well last summer on drip irrigation.

I'm in the southern part of MS and since baby's breath is so hard to grow down here I decided to plant some Sweet Alyssum by my miniature rose bushes. They went into the flower bed last week and appear to be re-rooting well. I'm just going to wait and see what happens from the storms we are due to have tonight!

If it makes you feel any better, it can be tricky here in colder climates, too. IF you can get it to establish here, you're home free for years and years. I have a pink one going on 36 years old, but have never been able to get another one to establish.

One of the Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) varieties might be a nice companion to your roses; nice filler for bouquets too. Small clusters of flowers about the size of a pencil eraser with foliage like a chrysanthemum - just less ephemeral than baby's breath. Feverfew will self seed, but is extremely easy to pull up and remove from where not wanted.

I grew babys breath last year,here in hot,humid Ga. and it did well for me.I also purchased a pot of the euphorbia diamond frost and I love that plant.Unfortunately,I did not collect any seeds from it.I will be planting babys breath again this year.already have some pink wsd and trying to get most of my annuals wsd by next week.

Hmm, I have some feverfew in my herb beds. Trying it out for the first time. That is a good idea though. I did plant some chamomile (seeds that is) in front of my MRS B R Cant. Hopefully it sprouts and I will have a stunning combination. I will have to get some more feverfew though and put that next to my Cl. Pinkie.

I wonder why for some of you the BB does well and others not at all? aybe when it blooms those of you who have it could post some pic's in the gallery side.

I grew Baby's Breath in hot, DRY southern California, but have had little luck with it here in Oklahoma. The plants grow great in Spring, but melt when the hot, humid summers hit.

I like Cosmos 'White Sonata" or any Cosmos. Their flouncy blooms bob playfully about in the breezes between my roses atop soft and feathery foliage. It makes a nice filler with roses. They were among Monet's favorite flowers he grew in his gardens.

I love easy to grow, no-care, flouncy Cosmos in my gardens! They are beautiful in mass or allowed to drift all over your yard as they please!

Cosmos are top choice of Cottage Garden flowers, not only because of their simple beauty, but also because they are inexpensive, easy to grow, care-free and they reseed themselves.

I just dug up some 'Naked Ladies'(Amaryllis belladonna), Burgundy Peonies and some Mock Orange bush-babies at my rent house in town and brought them out here to my country home to plant in my garden where they will be loved and appreciated more. So I am going out now to set them out in my garden.

Have fun playing in the dirt!
