I am struggling a bit since I re-injured that knee that had surgery, which led to this fabulous obsession when I found Garden Web while I was recuperating.

There are one or two more roses to be cut back, and I noted that a a couple of the new rose bushes already have little buds on them!

I bought some worm castings to put on some of the clematis and the butterfly garden still needs weeded and hope to do a bit of it today. It would be good for me to cement a pole for a new blue bird house into place. Maybe I'll do that a little later.

All of the daylilies need to be sprayed for aphids and thrips, and all the roses need the first fungicide spray. And here I am, "crippled" with pain from that knee. Ah well.

Take pictures soon. Maybe all those tulips will start paying you back with beauty for all of the work you do.

It's been spring for a while here and I am still not finished with everything. I have several more beds to clean out and mulch and a lot of just general cleanup to do, plus a lot of planting. It never seems to end but I wouldn't have it any other way, lol.

We are about 3 weeks behind Long Island on the start of spring weather. There are still a few piles of snow in the garden. We had 45degrees today and a few 60 degree days predicted in the next 2 weeks. I have only ten more days to do anything in the garden before a 6-8 week lay up for recovery from major surgery. I will prune the roses, pull out the dry scapes of all DLs and other perennials. I did lay down leaves in the fall. Normally I don't fluff the leaves and pull them away from the crowns of the DLs and other perennials until I see a bit of growth or as late as mid April. Do I go ahead and do it now? We will get frost through the last week in May. The garden will be on it's own until June.

I live in a far different zone (8), but it gets cold enough to kill all if the greenery on my daylilies, no matter whether the are evergreen or not. That being said, high negative teens are about as cold as it gets. My daylilies get no protection.

Frost probably won't hurt them much, but a sustained freeze might.

I am sorry about the surgery. I know how hard it is to be unable to get in the garden.

I have so many terraced and raised beds were the old dried daylily folliage was spilling over the walls in a not so lovely effect. It happens every year. But it sure looks better after I pull away those dried leaves and they are gone. The terraces immediately have a much neater look to them.

And as to the moving of daylilies, just because I did that one section, doesn't mean I am done and have no more to move. Always something to move around here. I would like to move afew of my Emmeriches from the back of the middle of the terraces up onto the very top section to free up some space in the middle of that section to put afew zinnias in back. But as usual, I have to dig out something before I can move something. In this case it's dig out daylilies on top. There is always a lot of instances of musical chairs in my garden each spring of moving this and that. This spring is no exception. I guess I wouldn't know what to do with myself if nothing had to move, ha-ha :-))

Wren- As far as pulling away the mulch, I don't think frost could hurt your daylilies either. If it's a choice if now or in two months, I would do it now also.

Kay, I am sorry that you have agraviated your knee causing pain. Its hard to get garden chores done while hobbeling around :-((

I was planning to go out and do more in the garden today but it rained hard overnight and this morning. The sun finially came out for about 15 minutes about 2 PM but that didn't last long. Its damp, cloudy and grey out and I am staying indoors. Supposed to be nice tomorrow though.

I had planned to spray today, but didn't. I have it on my firm to-do list for tomorrow.

The Dutch iris are opening, so I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Today its a chilly rainy day and feels cold to me. Can't be too cold as it's only rain not snow. When I think back to all the gardening I have gotten done already this month I am amazed. It has been nicer earlier in the month than lately.

Yesterday I did go out and spread humus in powder form around the garden so that todays rain could wash it in. I had already put Alfalfa on all the roses awhile back. Still have the daylilies to do with the alfalfa and to spread the spring fertilizer on all my daylilies. I already put some fertilizer on the Tall Bearded Iris to hopefully get them going this spring.

I can't believe I had already gotten that row of daylilies in the back moved so early. It has been too cold to dig any more daylilies and the folliage is still very short. Oh well, it has to get warmer and they will grow.
