Dahlia Wind Spinner

The camera stops the motion, but there is a video on Gardener Supply. That's the one I fell in love with. It picks up the wind really well...it was spinning like a deverish when I snapped these pictures:

The two circles spin in opposite directions apparently, and when you look at it stright on, it gives an odd sensation, as if you are spinning. I am very pleased with it.

For some reason, not what I was expecting. Much better, I love it! I had to see the video, pretty cool.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix the base of my wind spinner? The two pieces that screw together no longer screw together tightly and the wind spinner wobbles back and forth. The 2 pieces screw together, but don’t now since they are bent and stripped. I tried plumbers tape and it didn’t work. Thoughts?

Hey Darla, what does the wind spinner look like? I have a small dead tree I can't remove because it's in the middle of a flowerbed so I'm cutting off most of the limbs and leaving nubs to hang wind chimes and stuff on.Have lots of seeds to trade. Not trading plants at the moment 'cause it's too stinkin' hot and I blew my plant postage budget clean outta the water with some last minute trades in June. P

I bet what you got was "threaded rod." It comes in different diameters and lengths. One "junk" book I have shows how to make a pot person using threaded rod because you get bend it too. It's nice because you can screw nuts along its length to hold things in place. I'll have to keep an eye out for those leaves. I remember how popular they were to hang on the wall. Home Interiors was big at selling them years ago. Maybe to explain the marble's purpose better ... it serves like the tip of a top so that the pipe with the leaves attached sits on top of the threaded rod. It balances on the rod so that the pipe can easily spin around. Thanks for the great instructions!

YAY!! Kay, Presents are fun!! :) I invested in grow lights 2 years ago and I love them SO much-really worth the $$. This year I wasn't able to set up and I feel so sorry for my seedlings stretching to grasp what little sunlight they can from the windows. What seeds will you be growing? Can't wait to see a pic of your dahlia spinner! April is like my other Christmas..daylily packages start rolling in and the mailman and I become quite chatty again for a month or so. LOL

It is so unusual looking. Really, really pretty. I had never heard of a wind spinner. Did you cement it in ground?

Well, its not what I had pictured in my mind either, of what a Dahlia Spinner is going to look like, but, this is much better then I envisioned.Very pretty.I like it.I sure hope its cemented realo good in the ground, or it wont last long there.Some one will come shopping in your yard.

I took the spinners back into the house until I could cement it in the ground. You are so right, Jean. someone would go shopping. It advises you to cement it if there is a lot of wind. Sometimes we hae a good bit, and I don't want to lose it.

I had to go look at Gardeners Supply and watch the videos of the spinners. Yours is the nicest of all the spinners they offer. Great job picking this one!

I really liked it, and I am glad DH is so indulgent of my gardening whims.

Almost everything I asked for was garden related, which means it has just been waiting for spring to be enjoyed.
