Let's talk Clematis!

I'm about to select my rose for the arbor. I'm leaning heavily towards Lamarque. Because the arbor and fence are white and the Lamarque is white, I would like to add clematis for more interest. Brian is in favor of a periwinkle blue. I'm thinking dark purple. Would it be too much vine if I were to plant two clematis that bloomed at different times of the year?

I'm relatively new to clematis. I have three specimins growing in the back. They are Warsaw Nike, Ernest Markham and Harlow Carr. This will be their third season, so I'm just now beginning to understand their habits.

So show me pix of of your favorite clematis. Tell me about your experiences. What tips do you have beyond just keeping their roots in shade and their heads in sun? Welcome to Clematis Chat.
