Has Anyone Heard of Tropilab?
Comments (23)Keiko, I did indeed look for the Imperial Taro when I was at the Asian Supermarket, but did not find any there. It may not be the best time to try to find some, I don't know. Ah, an electric steamer - I yearn for one also. I must get one soon. I have to increase my veggie intake. I believe I actually could be a vegetarian (not a vegan), because I don't eat much meat anyway. But, the old blood pressure is starting to rise with the sun now, and I need to start watching my diet. Starches are definitely not good as they convert to sugars. But at least I can plant them. Rsieminski - for some reason, I got the impression that they get their supply from South America, but they actually sell them here in the states. I will have to check that out again. I would really like to have at least a couple of the species, e.g. brasiliense, as Michael has mentioned. If I have to pay those ungodly shipping rates, I think I will look elsewhere, thank you very much. Especially if they are just tiny little tubers. If I thought I was getting a hefty tuber, it might be a different story. I might have read something about the fact that the size of their tubers could vary substantially, but that doesn't tell me anything factually. A lot of room for messing around with my money there. I have some time to search around and check out other sources. Right now, I'm too scared to go check out my back yard. You would know this would be the year we have these ghastly, horrid, frigid temperatures in Oklahoma, after several mild winters. Ah, Oklahoma, how I hate it here. Wish I could move with my daughter to Columbia, SC. Doesn't get near as cold there, and I would feel much more secure with my lovelies in the ground (8b). Comments (21)DinaBear, You may want to take a look at the pictures below. If they do not show up in your email, then go to gardenweb and read the post on the website. They multiply by creating offsets. Simply put, every year the lily creates miniature clones of itself. They develop along the stem. Most lilies grow roots all along the stem from the bulb to the surface of the soil. These roots are the primarily roots responsible for feeding the lily and for hosting the small clones. These small miniatures, also called bulblets, are identicial clones of the mother bulb. Initially, they feed from the nutrients collected by the mother plant and is transport to the bulblets in the feeder roots. This allow the bulblets to grow from a pinhead to a chick pea size in one season. After this year, the bulblets (being attached to the old stem and roots) will send up it's own leaf which in another year will become a thin stem. In a couple of years (2-5 depending on type of lily) it will be a flowering lily. Here are some pictures: Here is a picture of a lily stem pulled from the ground. Note the "swollen part" which is the roots and see the white bulblets which is attached to the stem ? This is an example of a bulblet. This is a fairly small one. Typically they go from this size to 2-3 x that size This is a picture of a lily stem still planted. See the bulblets which have formed at the surface of the soil still attached to the stem ?? Here is an interesting picture. This picture show a stem about to die back (wither and turn yellow). Notice the green leaves at the base ? They are lily bulblets formed last year which has send out a single leaf (cotyledon). This leaf feeds the bulblet which is now idenpendent of the mother bulb. What to expect next ? See this picture: The lilies have created offsets, and they have all started as "a single leaf" as above. Now (a year later) they have turned into small "stems". Next year the smaller stems will be just as tall as the mature lilies and a few even bloom. This lily is a white dwarf Asiatic which multiplies easily. The slugs really gave them a beating last year which is probably why they multiplied so dramatically...See MoreHas anyone heard of Alliance Outdoor Lighting?
Comments (6)In 2013, I had a contractor install several path and bullet lighting fixtures close to the house; along front, side & back walkways; and around the patio itself. The contractor swore by and used 'Alliance' lighting fixtures and 'Cast' transformers. Alliance fixtures are made of quality heavy-duty brass, are NOT cheap, and have a Lifetime Warranty. If you want to install them yourself, though, you can only purchase them through distributors. In 2020, I bought and installed (myself) four (4) alliance risers to raise up lights located in or near shrubs that had grown up to and/or slightly above the lighting hoods. Regardless of the brand name, make sure you use LED vs halogen bulbs. LEDs are efficient, last a long time, and won't get hot and melt the thick plastic light diffusers on which the hoods rest. I haven't have ANY problems with the Alliance fixtures. And, I'm satisfied enough with Alliance that I'm about to have additional lighting installed (Bluetooth (BT) moonlights, large bullet lights, & additional small bullet lights) in my large front shrub bed and around the entire parameter of the remainder of my lot which is bordered by large trees. Again, Alliance is not cheap, but you always want to get what you pay for and not look back....See MoreHas anyone heard of using left over cooking oil on citrus plants?
Comments (99)If you have problems with an iphone, you can go on line and learn a lot from their tutorials. For me to use it just for web browsing it is not a big deal. If you buy a $ 900.00 unit, it is overkill for the purpose of doing basic stuff, there are cheaper ways . I use an old desktop with window 7 pro and a couple of programs for uses like Gardenweb and other progams, got a nice 24" screen to go along with. When friends show nice pictures of their efforts it show up nice with my set-up. For me it does your pictures no justice to watch it on a dinky screen, Forgive me for being such a lousy pita....See Morewjokos
