That is such as coincidence. I named my last child with the middle name Rose and I too was pushing for Iris as the middle name but the husband wouldn't have it he said it was too oldfashioned. I had 3 great aunts/grandmother named: Rose, Lily & Daisy.

I think Veronica is a beautiful name!

Our oldest granddaughter is named Lily. When she was five and her sister was born, her parents allowed her to select her sister's middle name. Her sister is named Amelia Dandelion. Lil's rationale was that they were both flowers and that their Dad's name was Dan.

Lily is now a Sr. at NC State and Amelia Dandelion a high
school jr. Both enjoy their names.

I love Dandelion as a middle name! But I doubt most people would go for it.

My mother had a friend in school with an unusual name. The family name was ROSE. They named their beautiful daughter Wild Rose. Mother always liked her name very much. Her friend grew up and married a man whose last name was Katt.
Mother still laughs about how a last name changed the whole image of her friend.

Please be thoughtful in naming children, especially girls.

I so agree with Annie, please be thoughtful in naming children, especially girls. I was named after my grandma, a very ol'fashion name. My name has always been subject to a joke or comment - even to this day. I highly discourage some ol'fashion names.

It is a name used in my family as well.
My family widely used family surnames for middle names for generations, too. I think that was a really cool thing to do. Too bad that tradition stopped.

Annie, my middle name is also a family surname, being my grandparents only had girls I carry their name for one more generation at least. Some of you might be able to guess what it is :o).
Edna I also LOVE your name, there's something very special about old fashion names. In my family there was a Sarah Anne and a Annie Sarah.

Names do determine the experiences one gets in life - and so I agree, it has to be well chosen. Old fashioned or not.

AAah...I love family names. I do genealogy for my family. It is cool to see how the names come down through the generations. Often, when I am looking for connections, it is the name that helps. And very often, it is the female names that help, as these will come across the marriage barrier/name change. So, someone whose Grandmother was called Rose may call her daughter Rose, even though there were none called Rose in her generation. It's a clue. In the modern generations, this is not true, and makes tracking after 1900 very difficult, if you have lost the thread. I am Nancy, for 'Nancy, with the laughing eyes' Sinatra, and Louise, a modern version of my GGM Louisa.

Nancy, my grandmother was named Rose. There must be at least 10 of my cousins who have given Rose as a middle name to their daughters (including myself). Two of my brothers have a family surname as their middle name.

I often think we should have the tradition like some Native American tribes who would give the child a name at birth, but when they reached puberty would get a new name that suited who they had grown to be. I would have chosen flower names for myself :-)

I've known several women by the name of Hyacinth and I have yet to know one who was not an exceptionally beautirul person in her ways - call it a coincidence but I think not. Two of them have been my best friends for over 50 years - lucky me!!

My name is Rosalie (very old fashioned) and was shortened to Rose by my third grade teacher, which has stuck all these years. My grandmother's sisters had flower names, Daisy, Pansy and Violet. For some reason my Grandmother's name was Opal. I like this thread :)

I love old-fashioned names which most flower names seem to be and my fav is Althea. I also like Alchemilla altho perhaps that's because I like the plant so much, not because it would necessarily be a good name for a person.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a set of twin sisters. Their names are Carla Sue and Darla Lou. At one point the doctor thought that they might be a set of three (long before the days of ultra sound and other fancy tests) and my mother was all prepared to name them Carla Kay, Darla Day and Marla May. I have no idea why she thought the names had to rhyme. My sisters are identical thank goodness or it would have been ridiculous to have rhyming names. LOL!

Coincidentally one of the twins married a twin. They have a boy and a girl (not twins) and I'm looking forward to seeing if their kids have multiples when they get to that point in their lives. Should be fun to wait and watch for!
