Looks like Alworthia 'Black Gem' to me. The browning new growth is the giveaway for me - they turn that color with any hint of direct sun. They also pup like mad.

Hi, Donna! A few of us have the same hybrid plant. Mine came from Costa Farms and they identified it as Aloe walmsley variegata. I repotted the plant and weaned it into the sun with my other Aloe plants. Bad idea. It turned black black black. It was not rotted, just a different color. After I moved it back into bright shade, some of the original color returned. But it has never returned to the lovely original form. All of the new leaves were smaller, thinner, too. It pups readily. I moved everyone into a wide shallow pot. (an old salad bowl I drilled about a dozen holes in.) It is in the bright shaded area on my lanai and is still dark. You have to look closely, but the variegation is still there. I don't mean to be a downer. My plant is still healthy, just doesn't look the same as when I bought it. And no, it has never bloomed. I hope you can maintain the look it currently has. It's really lovely!

Since the alworthia black gem variegata is a hybrid of the summer dormant aloe and hawarthia, does that mean it's also summer dormant? if so, how should I care for it?
