Is the picture already in your computer or still in your camera? Your camera should have come with uploading instructions and possibly software. Once it's on your computer, or when it's going into your computer save it as some name you can remember i.e. "mysteryyellowdahlia.jpg" etc etc

Then open a Photobucket account, or Shutterfly or other online storage. I don't mean to tout Photobucket but it is easy, familiar, and free to a point.

Create an album. Under ACCOUNT OPTIONS they give you an option on background colors, photos per page, what to display with each photo etc. Make sure you click YES on DISPLAY URL and DISPLAY TAG. The last item is IMG but I never use it.

Use the "Add Pictures" feature one at a time or multiple photos at a time (I find that 5 at a time is most efficient, after that it gets slow.) The Browse button will open up your folder where your photos are stored on the PC. If you don't see the photos in the open listing, use the scroll button to choose another place to look on your computer. Mine generally go to "My Documents," for example. Down below on that same box you can opt to search for just JPEG/BMP/GIF or All files. Scroll thru til you find your photo.
Then, just click on "mysteryyellowdahlia.jpg" to highlight it and hit OPEN down below to the right. That closes that box and your mysteryyellow dahlia file shows up next to the "browse" button.
Hit Submit and your photo will be vacuumed into Photobucket, or poured magically through cyberspace. It's all magic to me.

Once that's done you can use the edit feature to resize 25-50-75% of original. If it's really huge, we are going to have a hard time looking at it, so experiment around starting with 75% working downward. 50% usually is good. You can label it, or write little comments about your photos as well.

When it comes time to post here, start your message and leave your cursor flashing where you want to insert the photo.
Opening another browser window and going to Photobucket is handy,(you can go back and forth between the two- I JUST LEARNED THIS A COUPLE YEARS AGO OMG!)
or you can go there first, LEFT click on the TAG line of the displayed gibberish below your photo to highlight it, RIGHT click and choose COPY with a left click, then get back here to your message and cursor and RIGHT click then hit or left click PASTE. You will have copied and pasted the tag line which should make your photo appear when you preview your GW message.

If you move your photo inside photobucket, direct links are broken (don't ask me!) and a posting here previously showing a photo may show up as the dreaded red X. That's when real trouble begins, because we want to see photos!

I hope that gives you a starting point. If you don't have the photos inside your computer already I'm not going to be able to help you.

The top one looks like an oldie- a varigated waterlily called Purple Splash. The bottom one isn't a named one- not a recognized form- too many petals for a single & too big for the peony form.

Thanks Poochella!!! At last I can paste photos directly into my posts instead of linking them. I think Photobucket resizes the photos too. I didn't adjust, but I would have if I was posting several images. I just posted my Smokey in the gallery

Shroo, I think you have to compare leaves as well as blossoms. also height of plant and size of flowers is probably a factor in identification as well. My Smokey is similar to your striped dahlia. It has very skinny foliage. I don't know if yours does. The plant is 6 foot tall and the flower is about 6" in diameter. I bought the tuber from Botanus.
