Staking a dwarf mandarin?

Hi all,

I got a dwarf mandarin this spring and it's been doing ok in it's new home. Lots of sun. It's on a water timer w/the lawn (every 2-3 days) so I'm feeling it's probably getting too much water... leaves are a bit splotchy w/yellow and a bit curled. As the fruit has been maturing I've had some of the branches split and break. I just staked it up hoping that this will alleviate the problem but I'm wondering if this will be an on going issue and if there is anything to be done....

The tree is probably 2-3 yrs old and about 4ft high.
