More pictures of the Olallie cultivars from my visit

Here are more photos from my July 2011 trip to Olallies in Vermont, showing some more of their cultivars. As I said in my first post, it was extremely hot and humid that day and these photos were taken in bright sunlight but the blooms were holding up very well. I forgot to mention, too, that the trip to get there was very scenic but a little tricky to find. It was a lovely place in a lovely setting and I know I'll go back there again. Not all of these are available on their website or catalog but I just snapped pictures of what I saw blooming.

I have been away from the Forum for awhile, so now I hope to post more. All the daylily pictures are really pretty. I like simple forms just fine, so all of these are favorites. Thanks so much for sending them; I know I love looking at d.lily pics, especially this time of year. Avedon

"just think when your kids are past the slide stage you can put another island bed right on that spot" bluespruce Funny you should mention an island bed. That's my next project. The 'Whitespire' Birch to the left of the new bed in the second to last pic is going, and the new bed will extend from its spot to the Picea pungens 'Bizon Blue' to the left of it. The slide in the picture is my neighbor's, but we have one too. It's on the only flat spot in my whole yard and is the future site of a Koi pond. The triplets just turned 5, so it's at least another 5-7 yrs. out.Thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it. "It looks like you worked your rear off on this project. It is almost as much work mentally making something like this come together as it is a physical challenge" Dave The most frustrating part of the project was having to do it a few hours at a time. I usually like to knock these things out on an at-home vacation in a few days. Next project will definately be during a vacation. It's alot more relaxing that way. Thanks for the nice comments. T. Really nice, I love that last pic with the girl surrounded by lots of DLs. First one is pretty and looks nice there with the lilies. I saw 'ho butter' on the tag there and got curious what could the whole name be, and it's Morpho Butterfly! :)

Hi, once again, a question from a "newbie" on the daylily forum...I know I have read several of you say something about soaking, and I think it obviously includes chlorox bleach for one reason or another. Is this what you are referring to? If so, what disease are you soaking for to kill, how much bleach do you use, if that is the case? I have never soaked mine before planting that I have; didn't know I was supposed to or should. I always soak my roses for at least overnight before planting, but it is not for possible disease reasons, only using water and transplant stimulus liquid fertilizer. I have never had any major problems (that I am aware of, anyway) with any of mine dying that I planted......only 2 out of ~80, which I think is good odds, but would like to learn more about the usual or "appropriate" way of doing things the right way in the "daylily" world. I plan to start adding some of the more recent releases and "step up" my beds for next year. Thanks for your answers! Jan G. Texas, Zone 7B

I of course like the late and extra late bloomers from Olallie. I see they have VT CREAMY YELLOW, VT DIMPLED CHEEKS, VT GALA, VT SWEET TART all on sale and all of which I have. Really I just ignore their regular season bloomers but love their late season ones.

Like Avedon I've been off the forum for a while--just lurking every once in a while. It's nice to be back looking at daylilies. Thanks so much for posting them. My very favorite is the last one.

THANKS for looking, guys. I like all forms of daylilies and I was in heaven in that place! Even though they are simple in their form, they have so much color and grace. I guess I am not picky about flowers in general...I haven't met a flower I didn't like. To me, they all have their own special charm...just like people!
Val, the last one was my favorite too! That daylily is a blooming machine and the color was so vivid.

I have Olallie All Summer and Olallie Fred's Early Red myself growing here in my garden. I love reds! My favorite of the blooms that you posted is Olallie Michelle's Magic. But they are all very pretty.

Welcome to the daylily forum :-) Just wait until spring and summer when the daylilies bloom. We just all love to post pictures of our gardens and believe me, lots and lots to see.

Celeste, Thanks for posting these pics! I haven't seen many of these blooms before, so it was a treat for me. My favorite bloom in this group is Olallie Dawn - what a beautiful blend of colors.

I like the more trumpet-lily form of Katoo's Rose and Ethel Peters. It does appear, though, that the taller scapes may lean.
