Now that's a score! Jades can be pruned any time, however there are a few things to keep in mind. If you prune in the Winter or early Spring, the growth that results may be more spindly and etoliated. If you prune during the Summer or Fall, when light is abundant, the growth will be more compact and sturdy. But, again, Jades can be pruned any time... I just prefer that tight, sturdy, colorful re-growth. Second thing to consider is acclimating your plant. If it has been indoors, spend two weeks transitioning the Jade from bright shade to full sun. After pruning, set the Jade in a bright but not full sun location. Wait to water until you see new growth erupting from the nodes. As far as pruning goes...start by removing any drooping, downward angling branches. Once that's done, consider which main branches you want to keep, then remove the rest. Jade branches have rings called nodes. The segment of branch between those rings is called the internode. When you prune, you will cut through the internode - but leave a 1/4 inch stub of the internode, which will dry up and fall off naturally, allowing the nearest node to form a callus. Josh

It is debatable when the best time to do it really is. Part of the issue is that Jades are pretty variable in terms of active versus dormant season. Depending on your climate, you can have a very distinct dormancy. Typically when it gets too hot, Jades will go dormant. Otherwise, they are pretty opportunistic growers. Here in Santa Monica, they are basically always in growth, if you provide them with water. However, they seem to be most active in early spring after they have bloomed. Personally, I prune mine in early spring, so that the new growth forms almost right away. Having said that, if you are providing anywhere near the right conditions for your Jade, then you can prune whenever you want and not really hurt the plant. Jades are incredibly resilient plants! So pretty much, I'd say do it whenever you want to! You definately have the right idea with the water. If you are really going to do a whack-job (completely remove all leaves) then keep it almost bone dry until you see new growth. If you are just doing a little pruning here and there, you can just cut back, but not stop watering altogether. Of course this assumes you are keeping it above 50 or 60 F at all times... If it is colder than that, keep it drier. And how about some before and after pics!

Trim them now, in place, to get them to your new location. They'll start growing again almost immediately, especially if you give them the light/warmth/water combination - fall-to-spring, given good conditions, are their best time to grow. I'd use a hedge trimmer/small chain saw on the first pass myself.

Hello Vlad, more natural light would also benefit the plant in many ways. If you have a sunnier spot move it gradually over the coming week as a sudden increase in strong light can burn...as you found out earlier on : / They are very resilient plants, it should now do well for you in the coming seasons, a great recovery story btw! I would nip off the top two sets of leaves now as it will soon sprout branches...that's what I would do anyway as I personally find they put forth growth at any time when stimulated by decapitating and I tend to do things sooner rather than later!.....but obviously the call is yours.
