Ha - nope I restrained myself! First time in weeks...hehe... I ordered back in the fall from a lady in California that has a greenhouse and sells lots of succulents. The soil is actually pretty good, has a good amount of perlite in it and some bark. I can tell the plants are getting pretty root bound now but want to wait until spring to repot, mostly because I have to do it in the garage and don't want them to freeze. These little guys are in 2" plastic pots, all rooted cuttings. I have two other Crassulas other than my gollum Jade. One is a string of buttons. When I got it it was flowering but then it stopped because of whatever reason. I have it in a Southern window and it loves it. It never wilts and grows at a decent rate so I think watering it every week or two is working for it. The other one is a Crassula marchandii, not a popular Crassula at all and only one other member in the C&S group has one, though Norma knew what it was and said it is a hybrid. It's pretty finicky. I actually started a thread on it if you are interested, I'll post the link. The cutting I got from her had bloomed because I could see where the flower stem was and it was removed. Now it is splitting into two "branches" there which is exciting! So I think I'll keep that one around as pathetic looking as it is. It's one of mine that really likes the water. From her I also have a Sempervivum and two dumb Hens and Chicks (I don't like them, and they do not like me either, they started to stretch out and are fine now in a southern window but they look ridiculous with a neck and compacted head on top - I want to get rid of them but feel like I'm doing something really bad by tossing a living thing out). I ordered a "surprise" mix and didn't have a say in what I got, I just told her to keep in mind that I live in Illinois and they'll be inside lol. The Haworthia too of course that I mentioned. Two Aloes (I think one is a marlothii seedling, the one in the pure oil-dry and the other is a variegata which needs a lot more water than the marlothii right now, its leaves started to fold on me). One thing that's weird with my Aloe variegata is I swear it eats the dirt. The dirt keeps disappearing. When I bought it from HD it was healthy but a lot of dirt was missing. It was pretty much only any dirt that was stuck to the roots. Brought it home, threw in C&S potting soil laying around to hold it over until spring, and it ate it up again. It's bizarre and I don't know what the heck is happening to the dirt, but about 1/3 to 1/2 of it disappears. It clearly has a brain and knows it wouldn't do well in it! So I am obliging to its wishes and will not add anymore dirt for now. It's a really slow grower, both Aloes are. Hopefully they step it up a bit now that spring is coming - we have bulbs starting to poke through the soil already. I also have a Hoya compacta and a Sansevieria. Hoya is a rooted cutting so that won't do anything for years lol - the Sansevieria just sits there I swear it doesn't grow. I think that covers it. I really want a Gasteria next. I'd suggest that just being observant of the plants on a weekly basis is a better preventative. Most aren't likely to struggle with insect infestations unless they are grown too crowded, or inside a green house with insufficient air circulation, or the plants were bought infested or are touching each other on a greenhouse bench. The biggest problem I ever have with them indoors is usually mealybugs, and root mealybugs are the worst. Scale only seems to be much of a problem with cactus, and aphids can usually be handled just by hosing plants off. A diluted spray of rubbing alcohol can handle new infestations, or using something low level toxicity like Safer's Soap. Personally when I find myself having to deal with root mealybugs, I will either isolate the plant, or try to reroot it entirely rather than deal with treatment. Making sure they don't spread is much easier if you never let it get out of hand. Baiting for snails and slugs is also smart preventative maintenance. Outdoors, I can't say that I ever have much problems with insects on succulents besides aphids from time to time. We don't tend to have the worst of the Agave associated pests that are found in their native habitat, and Aloes may sometimes have mites or Aloe cancer which again is best contained by isolating or destroying the infected plants.

Fungus gnats are merely nuisance pests. But a pain inside when proliferating - you must break their life cycle to defeat them. The 7-year old brought a dang pumpkin home from school (!) along with fungus gnats, just after we eradicated them...sigh. A lot of work. Nonetheless, you have a sucking insect issue, maybe whiteflies, maybe something else, scan the leaves closely with magnification to find perhaps mites. That pepper has a soil problem, not able to tell if too wet or too dry, but lack of yellowing leans toward too dry, in addition to the sucking insect. Critter at first guess was maybe minute pirate bug/~ family, but not sure that's right & Hemiptera always give me trouble. Surely rhizo can pick me up if she is reading my replies these days. One thing I note when we grow lettuce and greens in winter inside, is that the windows block UV light and any soil fungi present (even after sterilizing , so maybe on seed) proliferate wildly and hard to bring lettuce to head or maturity because the fungi win. Kid likes the garden inside in winter so we do it, but not easy at all for two parents with hort degrees.

I feel for you! I've been fighting the battle against white fly and aphids which arrived along with the heat wave. It attacked my moonflowers, nasturtiums and basil. Eventually all the nasturtium plants but one have been thrown out. The basil I'd planted looks much like yours and I have more ready to go in but am delaying until this is under control. I don't know what anyone else would suggest but if it helps I'll share but I've done: I used small amount of mild soap and water in spray container and sprayed undersides of leaves too. Next I put out a dish of cider vinegar with a bit of dish soap and mixed it, covered with saran wrap and poke a few holes in top - that way flies get in but can't get out. I put the dish in the middle of the container pot where I'd noticed the flies in the soil. So far got a couple and haven't seen others - doesn't mean they're gone - just haven't seen the critters. This year I couldn't get to a garden centre where they had ladybugs but YES!! By far in my experience, the best natural pest control. If I'd had that remedy I wouldn't have done quite as much tossing out. The one plant I'm really worried about is the rose (I have only one). I planted garlic in with it and in the moonflowers & of course it will take some time to grow but I'm hoping the scent will put off the bugs. A friend gave me some of her chives - also another good companion plant. Hope you can get the upper hand.
