How to draw on photos

I'm not a computer expert, but I've found a simple way to "draw on a photo". I assume we all have the program named "Paint" on our PC (guess it comes in the package with Microsoft.) So here are what I do to draw on a picture.

I right lick on the photo I want to draw, then I select "Open with". Next the box will open will several options and I chose "Paint". The computer will open the photo with this "Paint" software.

In the Paint window, I click on the color palate on the bottom and choose one color that can stand out. Then I click on the "___" (which means "Line"). Next on click on the place with severl thicknesses of the lines below this box and choose a thick one to make it stand out.

After that I use the curser to draw the lines where I want on the photo. Finally I save the photo with the lines in a new name... and alas... I have it.

I have an area that I transitioned from lawn to moss over several years. The link below is to a photo of this area. Some advice that worked for me: 1. keep mowing during the transition. The weight of the mower compacts the soil which is good from the moss. 2. Don't aerate, lime, fertilize or reseed. 3. Yes, in the beginning, you'll spend time hand weeding, but once the moss takes over very little is required. 4. I had Chemlawn keep spraying the area with the weed treatment used on my lawn. Didn't hurt the moss and controlled the weeds, but not the grass. I used scissors to cut the grass to the roots. It eventually dies of starvation. 5. I use an electric leaf blower to keep the moss clean. I'd be dead without it since my moss garden is close to 1/2 of an acre. Growing moss is more rewarding than growing lawn in the long run. I don't think they intentionally are pressuring us. I think some people are like, "Oh just pick something!" and lets get this started. We had a realtor like this once..she'd get miffed after showing us a house and then we'd say it wasn't the one. She said, "just pick something already!" Our builder is good..seen many of his houses. Most people here pick a cookie cutter houses that looks like every other cookie cutter house in town. I don't think he realized we wanted something different and expected it to be a fast process. I realize there are various ways to buy land and build custom. This was actually nice because a lot of legwork was done that we don't have to do..plot plans, approvals, etc. It's ready to go and a great lot in a super desirable area. Regardless, I was just curious about the architect process and how many times is reasonable to go back and switch things around. We completely switched the last plan all over the place. I'm still not sure this will be right..I keep having more ideas and am realizing problems as I look at the rough sketch.

Thank you for the varied responses. All I was really asking in the OP was a website that showed the correct drawing icons for items such as lights, switches, ducts, etc. I spoke to the individual who would review my permit request and he poohpoohed my request for a model and suggested do my best, it should be fine. So I asked if someone on the web could show me what they drew or what symbols are used. My township asks for a permit for essentially anything more complicated than painting the house. As I'm taking down what theoretically could be a load bearing wall, I'm glad they do so! This wall contains a switch and a heating duct, which I'm sure the township wishes to be sure are safety rerouted. I plan to use no contracter beyond the structural engineer who already ascertained the wall is not load bearing. I apologize for not including more details and leading to any confusion. And I thank all the regulars, such as Brickeyee, who continue to give me good advice.

I never thought about using paint, I always use Photoshop 7.
Was just checking it out. Yes it would be very easy to use.

Any chance you know how to change the font and color? In the GW messages? I see it on some forum's, but can't figure it out :) Christy

Christy, I think it's like this:

[put your words here]

Then, remove the spaces that I added.
You should be able to substitute standard color-names
to get blue, red, white, yellow, green, purple (maybe).

include before and after the text you want formatted

for bold, put a "b" between the before, and "/b" between after

for italics, use "i" and then "/i"

for underline, use "u" and then "/u"

for

bigger text , use "H1" and then "/H1". change the numbers for different sizes.

You can also just open the code:
and if you don't close the code, the code will apply to all of your text....

(thanks for the tip on sizing...I couldn't figure that one out!)

There are dozens of little tricks available, but GW doesn't allow many of them.

then you can actually write out chemical names with subscripts: H2O

You can also change fonts and add wingdings Test text.
