2) how does propagation work with citrus. can I root a cutting, or do I need to grow from seed? Do different types of lemons need to be fertilized by plants of other sexes?

3) When is the time of year to prune and trim? While I am doing this, I can cut off some wood to propagate. When is the time of year to propagate? What is the process?(I propagate all of my figs, and will gladly trade with anyone!!)

antonv...HOOOOO slow down, you either buy a real good citrus book or do a SEARCH.If you just read the questions that are presented here and now, you'll find most of your answers.I know you want to do it right,and love your emthusiasm.I have to admit I know very little about propagation and really don't care to know.But there are Pro's on this forum that specialize in all forms of growing citrus.But they will probably answer a few questions at a time. Yep, Meyer's will fruit yr round w/proper care..When you say minimal sunlight how much do you mean? I'd give it as much light possible..
Citrus grow in 'sunny' Fl and Ca yr round so try duplicating their origin.

Yep, citrus need well-draining soil. Can you tell which type of mediums were used? In other words, do you see black soil? Sand? Etc, in the pot?
I mix my own soils because packaged soils are either too heavy or too light..So, I even it out using Perlite, peat and sand..and rich black soil.
As for feeding, I'd withhold food until stronger sun is avaialbe..You can give one last feeding, w/something like a 3 month food such as Citrus, Azlaea, or Osmocote. Just sprinkle on the soil, then water. Water thoroughly, unlil you see water seeping from drainage holes.
AS for repotting, can you hold off until spring? What size pot is your Meyer's in now? Do you want to use a decorative pot? Is that the reason you want to repot?

With proper care, I wouldn't worry about pests/diseases. Yet anyway..(S)
It's best to inspect your tree every so often, looking for bugs..signs such as webbing, white cottony patches, and little armored bumps. But I wouldn't dwell on problems yet.

You said, "do different types of lemons need to be fertilized by plants of other sexes?" Do you mean, do they need to be pollinated by other trees? If so, the answer is no..Meyer's will bloom solo. And if you keep it outside in summer, any pollination will be done by bees.

Why do you want to prune? By pruning, it's possible you'll ruin chances of flowers/fruiting. I wouldn't worry about that yet either..
The best time to propagate is in spring. Since you prop figs, it's very similar to prop citrus. Citrus may require a bit more humidity than figs though..I've never propagated a fig before, so I'm not sure. I'm assuming figs tollerate lower humidity levels than citrus. Hope this helped, Anton..Toni
