I like the first photo with the Picea pungens 'Wisconsin Cream' very much.
Is this a true low growing cultivar?

Picea glauca 'J.W. Daisy's White' is the old name for what is now Picea glauca 'Daisy's White'.
The J.W. was for the family name of the founder which is Joosten-Wijnen.
The commité of new plants names decided that the J.W. part may not be used anymore.

Picea pungens 'Wisconson Cream' is a conical tree like the species pungens. Will's plant must be a pungens that wasn't staked as a young plant and is now rambling finding it's leader ...in due time. Picea pungens grafts are very notorious for this. There are a few exceptions, 'Edith' being one.

I didn't know Wisconsin Cream very well either. Here I found this cultivar growing in more shade at Rich's Foxwillow Pines Nursery.

Love the Wisconsin Cream! That is one I'm not familiar with, but it will def. be on my wish list now! I don't know that I had ever seen it before.

Edwin - noted on the 'Daisy White'. Generally I follow whatever Bob Fincham has his plants listed at, though I both appreciate your help and the fact that some plants have a strange habit of changing names over the years. I won't go running out today to replace my signs, but at least mentally, it's noted. :)

Dax is dead on as well, though it is curious the color difference between these two 'Wisconsin Cream' specimens. I know the specimen I was lucky enough to pick up was kept in full sun(and apparently without any burn). There are so many white/gold coloring Picea pungens, I really hope to make a good catalog of pictures to show the differences and time lengths of the flushes.

I just wished, wished, wished to be 20 years younger and own a 5 acre lot, and then buy all these, Ken's, Will's, Dave's and Dax's conifers. But nothing happened, still in my 1/2 acre lot, same age, only a few new conifers.

I doubt if Larry sold you the right Taxus baccata 'Silver Spire' because this normaly is a white variegated one.
It's found as a seedling from 'Standishii' by Derek Spicer from the U.K. (Kilworth Nursery).
'Silver Spire' does have a look a like sisterplant which is named 'Icicle'.

Pinus cembra 'Fastigiata' must be written as Pinus cembra 'Stricta'.

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Chairman' must be written as Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Chirimen'.

Picea abies 'Compressiana' indeed must be written as Picea abies 'Cupressina'.

Pinus parviflora 'Ogon Janome' must be written as Pinus parviflora 'Ogon-janome'.

I will keep an eye on the 'Silver Spire' and get some pics of it when it starts to come out. I only have three Taxus so far, got the first two late last fall, so they just got in the ground this spring. I have a 'Fastigiate', 'Standishii' and now the 'Silver Spire' all from different growers, however at the current size and state, I can't tell a difference. I will get pics of them soon and make a thread on them and see what you think. Keep your eyes open for it.

Thank you Eliot. I got the shade cloth on with some help from my folks, last weekend. Potting up seedlings today and preparing flats of corn. A pretty drab coolish day. The hoophouse is ready for a long time now though. Good luck this weekend with the frosting temps.

Hi Stephen,

When the British Conifer Society visited my nursery, I dont know which year that was but I do know you was also among them, I received at the end 2 conifers.
Those were 'Picea abies 'Dumpy' and Taxus baccata 'Icicle'.
If I remember well Derek mentioned that there are 2 more found which were also white variegated and their names were 'Silver Spire' and 'Ivory Tower'.

Edwin, I know 'Icicle' and Ivory Tower' are Derek Spicer introductions...still not sure about the 'Silver Spire'...I need to contact him anyway, so will ask him about it.

Here's another little Cryptomeria that I picked up in January.
These (various C. j. cultivars) are sold for about $5 as "bonsai starters," so I try to buy them whenever they're in-stock.

That is the first Picea Omorika Aurea that I have seen that actually looks yellow. Mine basically looks like the species.

Mine's yellow. You probably know David that mature specimens lose their golden color. Maybe a juvenility
factor is needed then for golden plants... seems reasonable to me.

Bob Fincham noted this about 'Aurea' as well. I think the top of the plant might be more golden on like the last couple years growth, but naturally once the tree is 15-20' tall, you won't see any gold up there, even if it is present.

Dax: I am guessing that in fifteen years, you'll be admiring your larger specimens and I'll be getting out my chainsaw on an all-too-regular basis.

Beautiful specimens as usual. I love the P.o. 'Pendula Bruns' and P.g. 'Pendula'.

I've never seen an 'Angel Falls' that looks like that, almost "shrubby". I have a very small one that is staked up, but definitely more upright and pendulous.

Boy, am I envious! What is the tree to the right of P.gauca 'Pendula'?

Maybe it is my soil but I purchased a 3 gallon Picea Omorika Aurea years ago and it has never looked that yellow here. Then again I have Pinus Contorta 'Frisian Gold' and it isn't very gold either. On the bright side Frisian Gold does seem hardier than the zone 7 Bob list it as.

I'm going to say it is a Pinus parviflora of some sort...Not to familiar with the parviflora's yet. I planted one very small one last year (Fu-Ku-Zu-Mi) and ordered 2 more this year (Goldilocks and Ogon-Janome). In fact I just planted them both this morning. If I could find my camera battery I would have taken some pics. P. parv. appear to be beautiful specimens with a unique character as they age.

Some of the Fu-Ku-Zu-Mi that I have seen look very sparse and windswept...Creating an awesome look!

Hi, yep Kathy, Eliot is right. It's an unknown cultivar of Pinus parviflora. Seems to be relatively narrow and sparsely branched. I'd say it was pruned that way but I don't know for sure.

I'll also agree wholeheartedly with Eliot, Pinus parviflora's are some of the more amazing conifers, full of character, good colored needles, great cones and most are unique with age.
