Those are some tiny gauva trees. They also don't look grafted. I've grown guava from seed and it's tricky the first 6 months.

I don't know if moisture would do that or not but they don't look healthy. How were they wrapped/shipped?

I was thinking the same, dont look healthy, I also have some seed, But I understand they dont come true from the Parent Is this true. Tom

I'd be surprised if the seller doesn't offer a refund if you aren't happy, if she doesn't I will. You had asked about a Lemon Guava and I suggested the supplier. Since I made the recommendation, I feel partially responsible. I don't recall that she represented her Lemon Guava as being grafted. My Lemon Guava came from Logees and it isn't grafted. The guavas in my greenhouse (and Millet's) are from seeds that I grew myself. I doubt that the spots on your plants are anything other than one of the many different "leaf spots" that show up in stagnate air and high humidity. I'd set them aside, air them out and give them a chance. The sizes are small but as represented. Mail me if you wish.

Tom, I hear they are true to parents. I also hear they produce fruit in just 1 -2 yrs from seed. I gotta go for the wkend so I'll see how they look on Monday.

Patty, because they are Lemon Guava's, are the leaves meant to be yellow in color? That's my concern. Toni

Tropical guava plants ARE USUALLY STARTED FROM SEED. When the seedlings are about two inches high, transplant them to medium-sized pots. They are ready to be planted in their permanent location when they are about a foot tall. A VERY, VERY, VERY FEW named cultivars are propagated by grafting or budding, but only with difficulty, and guava cuttings root poorly. The highest success rate (other than seed) is from air-layering. However, the main method of propagation IS BY SEED. Actually,Patty your plant do not look all that bad to me. The leaves of Lemon Guava's are not a dark green color. The color is a light yellowish green. The white pin holes are probably nothing. Just give them some fertilizer (once a month), full sun and a little TLC and you will have a couple nice plants. Drop me an e-mail in a couple weeks and let me know. My biggest guava supplier is Citrus Joe (JML). - Millet

Grafting and air-layering, I refer the two as the same. I know I shouldn't but do because many people think they are the same.

Humidity with heat this time of year is a problem. I have a large white gauva in container dropping fruit but it's still really green as are the others.

I'm sorry I wouldn't be very happy receiving trees that looked like that no matter what I paid. A broken branch, maybe a little small, a munched on leaves but they have to at least be healthy.

Well, the guava's didn't lose any leaves and seem to be a little greener but spots are still there. I didn't know they'd be so small & they are 3-4 months old, but hey, only $4.00 @...$15.00 total w/ S&H so I won't complain unless they croak. Thanks All!

Patty, where did you buy your guavas? I ordered a pineapple guava from www.worldplants.com It should be here anytime now..
There's a seed company that sells both strawberry and pineapple guavas, but I don't think they ship this late in the year..IF my pineapple does well, then I'll order the strawberry next spring.
Yrs ago I had both; they were evergreen. No leaf loss in winter. I don't know about the lemon..In one of my citrus book there's a section on guava's so I'll read what they have to say about care. Good luck w/yours..Toni

I also ordered from Worlwideplants 3 yrs ago & got a very small trifoliate. I grew some from seed (from Buddinman :) ) & the ones I grew from seed are just as big!--about 3 yrs diff.
From what I read about guava's..they adapt to almost any soil. They grow better fruits when the season's are more distinct (cooler winter, warm sunny summer). I will go to WWPlants & look up the pineapple guava. Let me know how it is.
Also, you emailed me months ago asking what I grow. I emailed back & listed all but my puter went haywire & all was lost. I recently updated my profile & listed all plants that I now grow. Geeez, what an assortment huh? But, I sure do love my citrus. Maybe cuz it's the most challenging to me.
BTW, Trudy mentioned the other plant in pic looks yellow, so just want to let y'all know it is a white, yellow & green (variegated) leaf plant ..that I stole a cutting of in Florida 2 1/2 yrs ago LOL. Just looks yellow in pic.
Did you notice the mirrored panels on table top to reflect more light upwards? Good for the citrus.

Hmmmm mirrors? Never thought of that! I was thinking of putting my pots on black plastic to attract heat. Maybe I should line a tray with aluminum foil instead to reflect heat AND light?

That's a good idea too. Or, if you can find this heavier gauge (much more than foil) shiny stuff that they use to line sola tubes. VERY reflective! I got the 8" X 6' mirrors for nothing from a friend. I put some on walls to reflect lights too.

Chops, yep, mirrors or aluminum foil works fine..as long as you don't wrap the foil on the botton of pot..
I bought 12x12" mirrors at Home Depot for one wall, and had extras..so I used them as a reflection device..

Patty, I'm sorry about your Poncirus from worldplants..I've been ordering from them about 3 yrs now, and 95% of the time got good sized plants..in fact, my Poncirus, one that I'm growing in the ground outside, was almost a 1' tall. I experimented planting it outside..For 4.00, I thought, what the heck!!
I found size, from most nurseries, depends on what time of year one orders. For instance, fall is the best time, since plants had a summer to grow..the only problem w/ordering this time of year is many times nurseries are out of stock..Early spring is worse, (but it depends which state one is ordering from) If Fl or CA, then it really doesn't matter..
I'll let you know how tall my guava is..It should be here today or tomorrow..

I thought you were talking about Worldwideplants.com. I went there & couldn't find guava. So, I went to worldplants.com & I couldn't find guava. How much did you pay for plant & shipping? Yes, let me know how big it is. I have some info I got from Trudy about guava. I can email to you. Also, let me know if your ponc. trifoliate makes it thru winter outdoors! Tell me how to find pineapple guava that you ordered. I can't find it there. I don't want one, but just want to look.
BTW, my ponc. trifoliate was $18.00 and about a ft tall!!!

The Pineapple Guava is 8.00. It's botanical name is Acca Sellowiana, but it also lists the common name which is Pineapple Guava. I've never ordered a guava from WP's before so don't know how tall it'll be.
Also, when I ordered Pineapple and Strawberry guava's before, it was either from Jung's, Henry's or Gurney's.Do you get catalogs from any of these nurseries? They also have online sites. They were decent sizes and compact.
Patty, I planted the Poncirus (flying dragon) in the ground last summer, '04 and it overwintered fine..didn't even brown. I used mulch about halfway up, but it's slow-growing..Well, actually, I moved it this summer because it wasn't getting enough sun in that spot, since I've moved it, it's put on new growth.
I think WP's charges 5.00 for the Poncirus now..not sure, I'd have to check the site.
Like I said, it was approximately 1' tall and at the time, 4.00.
I also planted a basjoo banana last summer, and another this yr. One was bought at a place GW doesn't allow to name, the recent at WP's. If you want to see a pic, after u go there click on Musa's or bananas. Also, to see pics of Poncirus click on Citrus.
I also bought 2 palms which I planted this summer..don't know if they'll make it, but two guys on Palm Forum, (Chicago and Ontario) has successfully grown palms in their yards. The palms are Needle and Windmill, the hardiest of palms.

Patty, got my Pineapple Guave today..Ok, from bottom of pot to top leaf, it's 15" tall. There's a second baby on the side about 3" in height.
The plants are potted in 3x4" black plastic pots, so, it will need repotting.
The price was 5.00 not including shipping. I ordered three plants, shipping was 8.50 for all. Toni

Pineapple "Guava" is really not a Guava, as in genus Psidium, but rather is genus Acca.- Millet

PG, is Acca sellowiana, a hedge that grows 6-8'..grown for red and white flowers and tasty fruit.
It was formerly known as Feijoa..they switch names on plants so oftne..
There's also a strawberry guava that I plan on buying next spring from Henry's..Toni
