chamaecyparis obtusa nana issue

I'm new to this forum. I've done flower gardening for years but am in the process of relandscaping. I planted three of these dwarf hinoki falsecypress in the fall--Central Ohio. It is a north exposure. I was advised to amend the soil with a perennial blend and I did that. They survived our snowy winter, except now I see some brown foliage in their centers, and one has some reddish tips. Should I be concerned? Is this a fertilizing issue? I know very little about shrubbery.
