Have you aerated the corn with a hoe in the rows and some tilling [if rows are wide] between to open soil to air and drying? It's hard to say about the nitrogen. I specialize in good drainage to prevent your problem.. I also mix in some slow releasing organic fertilizer in the row before planting that likely will work all season.

The nitrogen in fish has various forms--most of it in protein that becomes available (soluble) gradually over a year or two. Urea in the fish blood becomes available quickly as ammonium, which bonds lightly to the soil, doesn't wash out, and lasts about a month. Nitrate in the blood is immediately available nitrogen that does wash out in flooding rains. If you want to be sure your plants have enough nitrogen for a fall spurt, give them 1 TB of plain lawn fertilizer, mostly urea and around 30-0-0. It's not too late to do this in the South.

Sarah - I know you're getting tired of all the rain in Georgia too. Thanks for the comments! Nat - It is so much easier to weed after a rain. I wish it would just stop raining long enough for me to do some weeding. I've seen Last Snowflake offered several time this year on the Lily Auction, so you might check there for it every once in awhile. Nancy - I'm glad you had a break in the rain long enough to get something accomplished. Every time I would go outside, there would come the rain again. I thought Indy Fling looked really nice today. The "after" pics that I'm posting right now were taken in September, I believe. I went organic right at the beginning of my journey with lawn care and I've never really used chemical fertilizers. I don't live in the US, actually. I'm Polish and I order my SBM and alfalfa pellets online. $15 for a 30 kg (65 lbs) bag + $5 shipping, next day right at my doorstep :) However, I can't find corn gluten meal anywhere here in Poland! Now, not to hijack my own thread, is there anyone who can help me with my original question?
