GGG ~ What a great Christmas blessing with all that weird activity going on in your neighborhood. It is nice to know that there are still kind people around. We also live in a 'strange' neighborhood, with bad things happening around us. We just keep working on our little haven and are thankful for our many blessings.

PS Yes, hope your broken toe heals soon. I know that painful feeling. I broke mine one year in December (tripped on the shower door frame), it got infected.

You are not alone, at one time we had a drug house in the neighborhood but that was some years back. I don't think any neighborhood is safe from this sort of thing anymore, a sign of very sad times. People in some parts of town are really getting fed up with this sort of thing and are banding together to take back their neighborhoods, it's beginning to work but you have to stay on top of it....Annette

Hey everyone. It was the foot I broke. Top of my foot hauling a heavy christmas tree from a display at work. Sprained foot, toes, ankle - strained and tore ligaments. What a spaz. Luckily the break is on the top and heals on it's own. The rest is slowly healing and I have much less swelling although walking/standing is painful and uncomfortable after an hour or two.
Today I have the flu or something! Was just able to drink some tea and eat a few bites of banana as I'm dehydrated. Poor DH has a pinched nerve in his shoulder, and I wanna go home as my Mom isn't feeling well (but I can't get around in snow nor travel/expose her to this flu thing). And my poor sister is stressed out and can't help mom right now. Her step-daugher (who's still a baby) is sick and the babies mother had to be hospitalized (she has mental illness and can't handle the holidays). Hubby's grandma has breast cancer although it is contained and they are taking it out tomorrow. I have to laugh as it's so silly, everything at once. Just hope my Mom will be OK. She didn't want to call me because she didn't want to worry me. Love my Mom.

Terry, I live South of Little 5 Points. I'm sure it's changed much since you lived here (I've been here 11 years, it's changed since then!) but still an "interesting" neighborhood. Mostly artists, musicians and other creative people who moved here in the last 10 years and then people who moved here 40/30 years ago when the local high school became integrated and the Government controlled the integration of this neighborhood. I love the diversity but can do without the crime.

FL when you mentioned they were beginning to build mcMansions in your neighborhood, I figured it was similar to ours. So is Ednas.

GGG ~ I'm sorry I got everyone to thinking you broke your toe. I knew you broke something. If you are a spaz, then so am I. (I haven't heard that word in years.) I slipped off a step from our front patio around 2000 and landed on one ankle then the other (as I landed on the sides of both feet with ankles on the underside if you get the picture.) and sprained both of them terribly. They still ache to this day, especially with chilly weather. I try to slow down and not be in such a hurry and to watch where I am going these days, but it is easier said than done.

We live in an un-incorporated area, and developers are building condos, etc. In our county there are many, many mcMansions going up even out west of town. Some have horrible, pretentious entries. Some places no one is buying especially with the way the market is right now. Our neighborhood used to be mostly Finnish people, very quiet people. Now it is more of an ethnic mix and I don't really mind that at all. I enjoy hearing different music, games of vollyball, soccer, etc, in different languages, as long as it's not so loud you can't think or your body shakes with the vibrations late at night but the crime stinks. Gangs mark fences with their signs, etc. We have hedges with flowering plants out front, so they have not spraypainted us. Shootings have happened, a murder happened in the apt. complex to the east of us a month or so back. It can get scarey at times, but for the most part things are relatively quiet. We are lost in the crowd and that's the way we like it. What we really have a hard time with is the traffic noise out front.

Hopefully they won't imminent domain our property like we've read about. They already did that with a depth of 15' across the front of our property when they widened the road from two lanes to five. Towns and developers can make life changes without batting an eye.

For now, we'll live as peaceably as we can, where we are.

Goodness, you have a full plate with all that's happening with you and yours. I hope your Mom feels better soon. Hope your DH's pinched nerve loosens up, and hope your DH's grandmother comes through her surgery well.

Flower, the area we live in use to be known as a finnish neighborhood, but now there is quite a mix going on. DH's mom was Finnish but didn't speak Fin fluently, just a few phrases and words.

GGG, you've really got a lot on your plate, when everything happen at once it can be quite overpowering, sending healing thoughts your way for you and yours. Have a very Merry Christmas....Annette

Oh how wonderful! I remember when I was younger a bunch of friends and I would get together at my place, go caroling, and come back to hot cocoa and cookies. Nothing better!

Just seeing the smiles on their faces was enough to warm us up even though it was fifteen degrees out, snowing, and blowing.
