Wonder if any in the gardening realm have been tuned into the Spectacular Shiba Six ? Just curious.

I'm in the sticks, on dial-up: too impatient to wait 30 minutes to download 1 minute of video. But I am an NPR junkie.

Were those the puppies in San Francisco? I heard today that their people are keeping one, so puppy-cam will continue beyond the weaning days.

Yes, Solana, I was referring the the San Francisco Shiba Inu Sixpack and they have been a wonderful diversion in this crazy world. Kudos to the folks who did such a good job of raising them and invited the entire global community to watch!

The family is keeping one (the smallest female), two of the boys went to new homes today and the remaining three are spoken for and will be leaving the lens soon. Given the excitement they've created, I don't think they'll all disappear right away, but at some point, 'enough is enough' will happen. But for the short term, they have been an uplifting diversion for many.

I understand the limitations of dial-up - I was on it for years. Puppycam for the past month or two has totally justified the cost of DSL!

Thanks for sharing. I used to watch their original show a long time ago and then with everything I watch I get bored and move on to something else. Doesn't look like it airs in my area from their website. Hoping it will get picked up. What I liked about their show was how they showed how to do things. All current shows that are on all seem to just show the before and after and not the steps to get to a good quality end results. Which if you look at their zoom-ups of the current shows just seems to show a gob of paint or paint brush streaks etc. I miss shows that have the how-to's of doing things in a quality fashion and gave some ideas as well on decorating. I do like eye candy of before and after, but I don't actually watch the show I just glance at the screen shots here and there if the TV is tuned to those shows.

I didn't post to this interesting thread before now because I knew I wouldn't be watching the PBS program. I can't keep up with any multi-part showing of anything on television. I come and go too often. But I've followed what you and others have said, Winter. Now that the Great American Read has concluded, I figure it's okay to comment. To Kill a Mockingbird would have gotten my vote. I've read it over fifty times since I first read it when I was ten years old, the year it was first published. I have large chunks memorized. Even fifty-eight years ago, TKaM was quite a sensation, but not everyone was receptive to it back then. I tried to do a book report, but my teacher did not think it was appropriate and wanted me to read and report on Anne of Green Gables instead. I liked the character of Anne Shirley very much, but I never learned the books she was in by heart like I did TKaM. I'm wondering about the list, though -- whether the books were chosen by a larger percentage of female readers than male readers. It seems to be weighted more in the direction of female tastes. Not that I find that surprising, but after reading so many lists of favorite books with a seemingly masculine slant, it does rather jump out at me. I've read many of the Top 50, but a lot fewer of those from 51 to 100. I've looked up those I haven't read for the synopses. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that only a couple intrigue me.

Midnightsmum - this has been a pleasant online diversion for zillions of folks, all over the globe, for the past couple of months.

A family set up a webcam (aka puppycam) to watch over their new litter at their home when they were at work. It got broadcast and went viral on the internet taking on a real life of its own with a huge following. The family did a wonderful job perserving their own privacy, yet allowing camera access to the pups and their antics for large segments of each day - face it, nothing is much cuter than a litter of pups!

The pups are over 8 weeks old now and leaving for their new homes, but it has been so soothing for so many to have been able to watch them grow up day by day. Puppycam has also provided an unintentional, but valuable lesson to folks on proper care and rearing of pups. Hopefully, lesser human dog breeders (aka 'puppymills') will be better identified and shirked for their shortcomings.

Here's a link to the site - click to take the view to full page - and the commentary to the right gives more info and background. The thumbnails are short video clips recorded over the past 6-8 weeks and the 'message board' is loaded with happy comments from all corners of the planet.
